Love these early morning chats w/teams.

Fun presentation this morning on being "product-led" in larger orgs. @Amplitude_HQ #analytics #design #prodmgmt

Quick version

To start, it isn't about being product manager led. And it isn't about not doing marketing. None of that 1/n
rather... it is about the potential of design and technology to support sustainable growth ... the potential of teams ... teams as more than builders (as opportunity harvesters) ... and "everyone as the business" / "everything is the product" 2/n
Instead of pure funnels (MOFU, TOFU, BOFU) ... we focus on lifetime value and elevating our customers. Helping them move up a ladder of sorts. Of course you still market, but the real step changes / asymmetries are explored by empowered teams 3/n
At "scale" we encounter all kinds of silos 4/n
And a paradox ... if we view how dependent things really are, we see a mess (but the big picture). If we silo everything and feign agency, then we lose the big picture ... 5/n
So what does this look like "on the small" ... progressively more decision authority and agency for teams. 6/n
But, the wise owl is right ? What about experiences, platforms, and all that goodness. Where does it fit in? 7/n
As you mull over things ... you start to get more of a service ecology. And that is perfectly fine. It doesn't mean you're suddenly NOT product-led. It means you're thinking on a broader scale...8/n
The important point is that you don't really have "internal customers". You have internal PARTNERS. This lone developer needs to see how their work fits into the big picture ... humans out in the world receiving value and interacting with THE THING ... 9/n
This is a big shift. It goes from internal customers, to a value network of sorts ... a garden that has to be watered, cared for, and defies the left-->right factory line model ... 10/n
Shipping quickly is becoming tablestakes. The question is whether you can learn as fast as you ship ... 11/n
Being "data driven" to silence hippos, prove it, and proxy trust will catch up to you. To realize new futures, to "innovate", and to grow the garden in ways that currently don't exist, you'll need different approaches. More support. More embracing uncertainty ... 12/n
You'll need to support these problem solving explorers ... 13/n
To wrap up ... Product-led…

Challenges at scale
Journey to product teams
…at scale
Learning and Shipping (in balance)
Data driven vs. data informed. Measure to conform vs. learn.
