/ 🇪🇺 Great discussion with @OpenEUDebate on how coronavirus has and will continue to transform EU communications.

A few takeaways👇
/ 📡Remote working, remote conferences and remote communication - as people get more comfortable with these formats, its only natural our focus moves more and more online (like @EU_Commission virtual press room!)
/ 👩‍🔬 Experts are back in fashion. After growing suspicion of experts in 2000s/2010s, we see doctors/scientists/other experts welcomed in the public debate again.
/ 🤝 Deeper inter-institutional cooperation within the EU. We have seen the power of working under the EU brand with @Europarl_EN, @EUCouncil, @EU_EESC and others. Shows we are #StrongerTogether.
/ 💙 Empathy is key. The crisis and economic impact is a traumatic experience for our continent. Connecting with people and showing them how Europe is helping should be central to our communication of #RecoveryPlan #NextGenerationEU
/ 🌐 Europeans want more cooperation. Public opinion polls are showing that people want more EU capacity to respond to crises. We should be louder and prouder - both about what we are doing and will do.
/ 🙋 More opportunities for citizen engagement in policy making. Beyond our consultations, dialogues and other tools, the Conference on the #FutureOfEurope will open new doors.
/ 🌱 More green conversations. Europe will have to rebuild and bounce forward. The #EUGreenDeal is a central part of the #RecoveryPlan.
/ 🤖 More digital conversations. To ensure a resilient and intelligent recovery, a large focus of the EU response will be on digitisation of our continent.
/ 🗣️ EU using its voice as a global leader. Not just using our economic clout, but using our voice and values to bring people together to stand up for issues like climate, fairness, multilateralism - just like with the #GlobalResponse.
/ 🏡Going more and more local. When the crisis happened, people wanted to see impacts in their neighbourhoods. Communication needs to connect with people where they are.
/ ⚔️ New threats - coronavirus, the economic crisis and response has and will continue to see disinformation campaigns, opportunistic attacks on the EU, scapegoating, credit taken for EU efforts and more. We need to always scan the horizon, anticipate and respond.
/ Many thanks to the students, scholars and friends of @OpenEUDebate, including:
