🤔...Tonight I am wondering:

Do the lives of #rarediseases #PID patients matter as much as the lives of patients affected by more 'common' conditions such as #COVID__19 ?

Answer=YES

Does #plasma save lives?

Answer= YES

#hyperimmuneglobulins derived from plasma are under development and potentially could save the lives of people with severe forms of #COVID19. Isn't this great?

Answer= Yes!

Wherever these #COVID19 patients live shouldn't they have the right to access such potentially life saving treatments?

Answer= Yes

And isn't fantastic to see companies (who usually compete) from both the public and private sectors join forces to accelerate the development of these treatments?

Answer = Yes

Does anyone right now talk about whether the #plasma used to make these COVID19 treatments come from plasma donors or blood donors? From the US or Europe?

Or whether these donors received a payment for their donation or not?

Answer = no

But why?

Because what is driving all of our current hopes is the fact that these treatments could help save many lives..

...Because what should always drive any decision or policy regarding access to lifesaving treatments is the patients ..and their lives!

Yet, for DECADES now discussions about the need to increase #plasma collection in Europe have been at a standstill because we cannot manage to focus on what patients need!

We get lost in endless ideological debates on whether or not to allow donors to be remunerated...

My question is why can we not think of #rarediseases #PID patients as we do for those with #COVID19 or more common disorders?

Let's focus our attention on saving lives with safe, efficacious, well regulated and authorised therapies!

Let's focus on the patients!

And let's thank again all #blood and #plasma donors who all volunteered to donate to save lives!

It's time to wake up and look at what really matters!
