With an explosion of software in the past few years, IMO, the tech stack of the future will see a LOT less custom code.

The attached poster/graphic summarizes my thoughts.

With 100+ launches on PH every day, there is a high probability you will find software that does what you need at a price point that works for you

These will be the first port of call for any process automation and new product functionality

Some examples coming up ...
Some tools provide functionality for your product

@getstream_io gives you newsfeed, @twilio gives you chat/SMS/calls, @keen_io enables reporting out of the box, @bannerbearHQ API creates bulk images. And so on
Others help automate processes.

e.g. @zoom_us + @Calendly simplify booking meetings. @HubSpotCRM + Code by @zapier automate data capture and calculations, @freshdesk automates your service desk.

And there are '000s of these to cater to almost every use case
Tools cannot exist in isolation. They are part of a process

So native integrations OR via tools like @zapier, @tray, @automate, @cdatasoftware, @IFTTT, @Workato, @apiantinc, @blendr_HQ, @onesaas, @dashdash, @integromat, @PieSync, @parabolahq etc will be a key selection criterion
If we still have to build functionality, we will probably use Visual Coding (#nocode/#lowcode) tools like @thunkable, @apprat_io, @appsheet, @webflow, @bubble, @AdaloHQ, @glideapps, @airtable, @coda_hq and others

And yes, I include @wordpressdotcom +plugins here
Interestingly, some of these come with their own data tables. So no fiddling with #MySQL, #PostgreSQL, etc. You can even set a many-to-many relationship with a click!

Some others use @googlesheets & @airtable as their database
With data residing in different tools, there will be a need to consolidate and analyse it with CDPs like @segment, @mParticle, @lytics, @Woopra, DMPs like @Lotame, @mediamath, @SalesforceDMP and Reporting tools like @GetDasheroo, @databoxHQ, @panoplyio, @chartio, @klipfolio, etc
Custom code will be the last option. And more often than not, this code will sit atop some #SaaS or #nocode tool mentioned in the posts above.

The impact of this change on @Accenture, @Wipro, @Infosys et al will be immense
I also think this will lead to a new kind of technology consulting company. One that has the breadth of knowledge to help a client choose from a variety of options (for example, @Capterra lists 679 CRMs).

But that's a story for another day
A 2019 survey by @BlissfullySaaS (blissfully.com/saas-trends/20…) showed that a company with 100-250 employees used 99 apps. At 1000+ employees, that went up to 200+. In 2018, the average cost per employee of SaaS subscriptions was $2,884!

So the future I talk about is already here!
And we are done!

This is an attempt to consolidate my thoughts in one graphic. Needless to say, that makes it a bit simplistic. So let me know your views/ideas on how to improve it.
Coincidentally, a #nocode tool is trending on PH today! producthunt.com/posts/unstack-1 with 820 upvotes (including mine). Congratulations @grdeken on the successful launch!
