It’s Monday morning and I’m exhausted. I spent majority of the weekend locating, bailing out, and talking to protesters, and now that I’ve had a few hours to recharge I’d like to share my/their experiences as well as my concerns re the FEDERAL OCCUPATION OF KANSAS CITY.
Multiple protesters we bailed out reported that after being maced by police they tried to escape. They were blocked by an unmarked truck and immediately rounded up, thrown into a paddy wagon, and taken into custody.
Once in custody, officers confiscated protester’s masks/face coverings and did not provide new masks. They were interrogated for hours by a cop who wanted to know “which one of you fuckfaces spray painted our statue?”. They were denied food/any information re their charges.
Eventually kcpd couldn’t figure out what to charge them with and cut 4 of them them loose around 4 am. Essentially they sat in jail for HOURS for no reason. Police continued to drag their feet processing the rest of the protesters. We set up shop and waited.
Myself and a group of folx from various activist groups waited until 8 FUCKING AM (10 hrs) for the rest to be charged and processed so we could pay their $500 bail and get them safely home. They reported the same as the first group re unmarked truck/paddy wagon roundup.
Cut to Saturday evening (this is when shit gets scary y’all). We receive multiple reports of a group that attempted to organize a protest at The Plaza had been arrested. Within MINUTES of the protest, officers came swooped in in UNMARKED VANS and started making arrests
These people were NOT ARRESTED FOR BREAKING ANY LAWS AT THE TIME OF THE PROTEST. They were arrested after officers used FACIAL RECOGNITION TO ID THEM FROM THE NIGHT BEFORE.
Let that sink in. 200 Federal agents have arrived in Kansas City, and within DAYS we are seeing the same tactics used in Portland. Unmarked vans, facial IDing, disruption of peaceful protests. If this shit doesn’t scare you it should.
“Operation Legend” is an attempt by the federal government to curb BLM protests under the guise of “fighting violent crime and solving homocides to make KC safer”. Period. KC is the testing ground for a new police state, and if you think it will stop here you are kidding yourself
