I finally got to go home to Montana this month. I hugged my mom for the first time in a year.

7 days later- I found out I had #COVID-19.

(thread)
I burst into tears when I heard the news. I had mild symptoms at first, so I was shocked.

My first thought was who I had possibly exposed before I showed symptoms, including my mom, who has compromised lungs.
I’m a journalist who has been covering #COVID for months. But no amount of interviews or coverage could have prepared me for the news.

I know that people end up fine in the majority of cases.

I also know the virus is a killer.
At the height of my symptoms, I was sleeping about 14 hours or more each day. My chest hurt, I couldn’t stop coughing and I had some congestion.

I never had a fever. I took my temp. multiple times a day.

It could have been worse. But, it was no walk in the park.
When I was feeling at my worst, I got some good news. All my family members I’d recently been around tested negative for the virus, including my mom. They still haven’t had any symptoms 🙏
It’s been 13 days since my symptoms started.

I’m feeling better. But, I’m still tired & coughing.

Before #COVID, I was working out 4-5 times a week. Now, I get tired bringing up laundry from my basement.

But, I’m better. And for that, I’m grateful.
Not only do I have my health, but I have immense gratitude for the caring people in my life. @MelissaKXLY4 sent me a care package & checked in so often. Our HR manager sent me cards and countless friends who knew what I was going through called/texted daily for updates.
Tonight, I’ll be sharing more on #4NewsNow about my experience battling #COVID & what it’s been like for my family & best friend, who was staying with me at the time I was diagnosed.
While I have you here...
WEAR A MASK.

I had no symptoms for days, but anytime I left my house, I wore a mask. I’d like to think, based on research I’ve read, I limited the spread of the virus by covering up. 🦠
