3 meet-ups down, 2 more to go in our "Un-Trumping America" by @danpfeiffer virtual #BookClub. šŸ“š

Here's a šŸ§µrecapping Chapters 7 & 8.

TL/DR: sign up for Week 4 as we start "Part 3: How To Make America A Democracy Again", events.democrats.org/event/284418/.
Q1: @danpfeiffer lays out 3 factors that pushes media in the ā€œdecidedly wrong directionā€. 1 of those factors is Facebook. How can #Democrats utilize it appropriately to spread the democratic story/message?

A1: Only share stuff that spreads the democratic story/message. Period.
A1 cont: Stop sharing, commenting, reacting to posts that promote 45 & R talking points & start doing it with Democratic talking points on your profile & other's.

And as @Chasten says, "Let hate sit alone."
Q2: @danpfeiffer argues that we need to prepare for information warfare & outlines 7 ways to do so.
Idea 3: Become Your Own Media Outlet. How does this look for grassroots organizers?

A2: Be personal w/ what you share. Focus on Democratic values, talking points. Diversify media.
Q2 B: ā€œTraditional field organizing is critical & effective & must continue, but itā€™s not sufficient. Democrats need to build tools & strategies to take the wildly successful grassroots organizing that is the heart & soul of the party...ā€

Idea 5: It Takes An Army.
Q2 B: What are some successful examples of grassroots organizing?

A2 B: Use of relational organizing. Learn more from @gretacarnes, fwiwpodcast.com/fwiw-episode-1ā€¦. Grassroots based digital captain programs.
Q2 B cont: What are some tools & strategies created to amplify successful grassroots organizing?

A2 B cont: @joinoutvote app, outvote.io. @TeamJoe app, go.joebiden.com/page/s/team-joā€¦. @actblue. @LetsMobilizeUS. @OutreachCircle. @StoryvineInc.
A2 B cont: Be sure to check out @OccupyDemocrats & facebook.com/ridinwithbidenā€¦.
Q2 C: Idea 7 = A Picture Is Worth More Than 280 Characters. "The most shareable messages are pictures, memes &/or videos."

A2 C: How do you pronounce "gif"?
Q2 C cont: @danpfeiffer reminds us that ā€œWhat works on Twitter doesnā€™t necessarily work in real life.ā€ So how should grassroots organizers use Twitter to help amplify democratic stories/messages?

A2 C: Only interact with & amplify democratic talking points & anything else ā¤µļø
Q3 A: At the end of Chapter 7, @danpfeiffer provides some ways you can help, like support progressive media outlets (@MotherJones, @TheProspect, @theintercept).

Of course, be sure to check out @crookedmedia & @PodSaveAmerica, cohosted by @danpfeiffer.

Q3 A cont: #Democrats, what are your favorite progressive media outlet?

A3 A: @voxdotcom, @TheAtlantic, @NewYorker, @HuffPost. @CapehartJ got a shout out, along with @AbnormalPodcast.
Q3 B: How can we fight disinformation on social media?

A3 B: Check out, disarmdisinfo.com. "What we can do instead is amplify the causes and candidates we support."
Q4: ā€œThere is plenty of information that would cause all but Trumpā€™s MAGA base to break with him, but none of that information is getting to those voters organically.ā€ What information do we, as grassroots organizers, need to get to voters?

A4: Healthcare. #VoteByMail. Bounties.
Q5: ā€œNot enough is focused on persuading nonvoters to become volunteers. Trump is president in large part because four million people who voted for Obama in 2012 didnā€™t vote in 2016.ā€ What do you know about nonvoters that would be critical for grassroots organizers to know about?
A5: Focus on values. Build trust by listening & teaching how government works. Educate about voting, walk people through the process.

Some resources: vote.org & @the100_million, the100million.org.
A5 cont: Don't forget about overseas voters. @DemsAbroad has a lot of opportunities to reach these voters. Visit democratsabroad.org for more info.
That's a wrap-up of Week 3's #BookClub discussion on "Un-Trumping America" by @danpfeiffer. Join us, all are welcome, this coming Monday at 8:30 pm ET as we dive into Part 3.
