2/5. During the war of 1282, a month before Llywelyn's death, the Archbishop of Canterbury came to the Prince and relayed to him the offer of an earldom and an estate in England worth £1,000 if he would surrender and relinquish rule over northern Wales to Edward.
3/5. Llywelyn replied that he would not surrender his Welsh inheritance which his family had held since the days the refugees of Troy had first landed in Britain. He would not give up his rightful inheritance for estates in a foreign land with strange customs unfamiliar to him.
4/5. Llywelyn said that it was not within his power to renounce his principality which his family had held for time immemorial and even if he was moved to accept the offer his royal council would not permit him to do so.
5/5. He finally states that even if he decided to grant the king power over Eryri the people would refuse to swear obedience to a stranger whos language and laws are unfamiliar to them, especially since they were aware of how cruelly the english abused other parts of Wales.
6. Llywelyn left his brother Dafydd in charge of the defence of the north and headed south at the head of a large army where, a month later, he was assassinated by his Mortimer cousins
7. "Killed in battle" my arse. The last Prince of pre-conquest Wales was lured to a meeting and assassinated by his power hungry Marcher relatives who posed enough of a threat that the Archbishop warned Edward that he was in danger from the Mortimers. Then they murdered his son
