Jst some few weeks ago,I described d various problems facing Nigeria poultry sector. Aoeva,voices like mine remain inaudible bcoz am not Zartech, CHI,Amo or Sayed
These are d sector giants trying to strangle d toddlers.
I will also explain ao our Gov. also failed us in ds #Thread

Let me quickly state that I am doing this thread not to berate or undermine any of the above mentioned company's name. No doubt, all of them has contributed immensely to the poultry sector development.
But in recent times, these people are bent on killing the smaller farms.

Let me explain how this work.
The birds we all reared are the offsprings that are produced from a parent stock farm. These farms are also refferd to as breeders. In breeders,we have the grand parents stock and parent stock

Now, the sole responsibility of any serious government is to invest in research and development of parent stock that are genetically improved for our tropical climate. Unfortunately, most of the Grand parent stocks and the parent stocks are franchised, imported from Europe and US

Arbor Acre, Cobbs, Ross, Hubbard, Marshal nd Anak are all not native to Nigeria.
Most times,the grand parents are abroad and the PS eggs are imported and hatched in Nigeria to produce DOC's.
This bottleneck is a major hindering factor that stalled the expansion of breeder farming

As the population grows with more people joining the trade, most of these breeder farms are overwhelmed with demand for DOC's. Thus, the unregulated pricing of products.

Let me also say here that 90% of the major breeder farms in Nigeria are owned by foreigners. None is totally indegineous. Yes, even including Farm support and Animal care that seems to be ours. You will still find a white man here.

CHI only seems to be the only grand parent farm in Nigeria, they sell Arbor Acre Parent stocks to farmers, presently they are overbooked beyond capacity till next year March.
You can only find Ross if Agrited or Sayed want to sell POL, Marshal promoters are also not doing enough

I need to explain all above so we can understand that without more people investing in breeder farming, farmers will be at the mercy of all these foreigners.
They will dictate market price as they wish and nothing will stop them at it.

This breeder farming is not a rocket science... Just that we as farmers doesn't want to take risks. And without risk, no breakthrough.
The government also need to help with an indegineous breeding program and research into d development of local breed.

As the population grows, the demand for poultry products and associated inputs will also continue to grow.
When we have more farms churning out day old chicks on a daily basis, I think we will all be fine. The competition will be fair.

Lately, I have been having sleepless night thinking about starting my own breeder facility but funding is the major issue here. A breeder farm is highly capital intensive and requires strict management regime.
I won't mind an investor at this time as am tired of the sector mess.

Another, area of investment in the sector is setting up a Commercial hatchery.
This is also capital intensive but also a money spinner.
Eggs laid by the breeders need to be hatched and this is where its done in thousands.

When my sister @Beamburlah called for a boycott of DOC, I laugh because even if we don't buy, buyers are waiting in Cameroon, Niger and Chad.
These big players are not worried about us my sister.
What we need is self help by having our own breeder flock even if it's 200.

Let me also conclude by saying poultry farmers are going tru a lot recently.d hike in feed price, poor egg production and the crazy DOC price is enough reason to be depressed like I was in the last two weeks.
Just appreciate a farmer and thanks us.
Together we are stronger
