MY MARCH POULTRY CHALLENGE: MORE THAN CORVID-19
Last month,I took a break from twitter due to some challenges I faced while trying to do my business.

The month of March came like a normal one where poultry owners will contact me for Quality POL. I have about 9000 requests and I have to source for these birds from withing my clusters in Ede and sometimes beyond.

Obviously, the POL biz is a very risky one, but I have always ensure that I rear enough birds all year round to meet the demand. My self and some farmers formed a rearer clusters and most cases we stock birds at different time to meet the prospective farmers time line and request

So in the month of March I picked these 8k birds of the 9k request from the same flock, same farm and same time. A logistic company was contracted to deliver the birds to the different locations and each clients paid directly to the coy. Birds were received on the farms.

Birds were supplied to Ìjẹ̀bú Mushin, Two different clients in Ikorodu, Oyo town, Ondo town and far Jos.
These birds were healthy, well vaccinated and well reared b4 transportation. As a matter of fact nobody will transfer bird to far Jos if they look sick.

Unfortunately, clients from Ondo and the other two farmers from Ikorodu axis started having serious mortalities the 3rd day of bird arrival. Carcass were taken to the lab and it was discovered birds have Newcastle Disease.
I checked on other deliveries, none have such complaints

Infact, I delivered about 4k of these birds to Jos. The farmer called today to inform me the birds started dropping this morning.
They also want more in coming weeks.

The whole situation became chaotic, I have never experienced such. I was afraid and terrified seeing farmers who have entrusted me with their life savings loosing birds in volumes. I knew this is serious trouble for my brand and this may leave me in debt.

Sometimes I will be overwhelmed with calls from the 3 clients and at a point I stopped picking their calls. I almost went into depression. I couldn't attend to the farm needs because I have to shuttle between Ondo and Ikorodu with a consultant Vet doctor.

At a point I started refunding new customers because of the uncertainty... I refunded some customers to the tune of millions.
I also missed some vital business calls. I later realised business can go awry sometimes and I have to stand up against the challenges to make it pass.

We eventually discovered that it was actually the same transport cage that were used for the three farms having issues.The crates were not adequately sanitized by the logistic company b4 they were used to convey the birds
Logistics remain one of the major challenges in the sector

While I was trying to remedy the situation. A farm in Nassarawa reached out asking if I can deliver a battery cage for 30k capacity layers in 2 weeks. I sent them a quotation of about 21M which they think is fair enough considering the rush.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to Nassarawa because of the issue at hand to defend the quotes. The time schedule was just too close.
Before all these I was also in Kano to pursue a POL delivery unfortunately I couldn't deliver because of paucity of fund.

All these and many more highlighted my March...
In all, I will continue to be grateful to God Almighty for giving me the strength to wither the storm, we will be coming back stronger coz that's what I am. I am an entrepreneur and we are bound to fight challenges.

I am not going to be deterred by these challenges, am going to forge ahead while trying to evaluate the situation and savage the damages.
