The Forgotten Story Of Batukeshwar Dutt🙏

Independent India didn't accord him any recognition
&he spent his remaining life in POVERTY away from the political limelight.
The later life of the freedom fighter was painful & tragic
Hunger strike in jail - 97days

Batukeshwar Dutt along with Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev & several other revolutionaries initiated hunger strike in jail to protest against the abusive treatment of political prisoners by British.

They succeeded in securing some rights for them as well.
“Without my companions, how can I eat?
Let them come first.
I will be absorbed in my book till then.I won’t even know how the time passes,”
Batukeshwar was quoted saying this during his hunger strike in the second volume of Indian Revolutionaries A Comprehensive Study, 1757-1961.
Sent to Kala Pani -

While Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged in Lahore conspiracy case in which ASP Saunders was murdered by Rajguru.

Dutt was sent on Andaman Cellular jail for the bombing Central Legislative Assembly in 1929.
He was released from the jail in 1942.
But he participated in Quit India movement and sent to jail again....
In 1942, he was released but soon again sent to jail because he actively participated in Quit Indian Movement started by Mahatma Gandhi. He had to spend another four years in jail....
India got freedom, but Dutt remained in oblivion...

Dutt had contracted TB in jail and after Independence, he married in 1947.
He didn’t get any recognition;
and despite him trying and seeking government help to get employed, he wasn’t provided with any job.....
He died an unknown in AIIMS, Delhi😞😪😭

Dutt struggled to make ends meet and the prolonged disease of TB furthered drained up all the resources the family had.

Dutt died an unknown after battling the long prolonged disease int he paucity of the resources.
Dutt outlived all his comrades and died on 20 July 1965 in the AIIMS hospital. 😪🇮🇳

He was cremated in Hussainiwala near Firozepur in Punjab where bodies of comrade friends Bhagat, Rajguru and Sukhdev were cremated many years before.
This is just One story of how India treated its freedom fighters & Dutt is relatively known figure yet he was accorded any recognition by government of India after independence...
One can easily imagine the number of freedom fighters who’s contribution was denied😞 recognition by the very independent state they fought for.
