1. Back in February I highlighted the potential for #SARSCoV2 to cause long term harm. Unfortunately we’ve seen this come to pass in #LongCovid

I also warned about the likelihood of reinfection. We’ve seen many anecdotal reports, but today’s sequences case is the first proof.
2. I’ve spent the last few weeks hammering my head against the general refusal to accept airborne transmission and transmission by children. What’s happening in schools in Germany and Scotland should put an end to the debate.
3. If children don’t wear masks in English schools, we will lose our tenuous grip on transmission at the worst possible time - heading into the winter cold and flu season.
4. I have two further concerns. The first is a temperature variation theory postulated by @PatrickSSte which is well-evidenced and seems sound. He hypothesises that the virus attenuates or becomes more virulent depending on temperature.
5. If Patrick’s theory is correct, we should expect the virus to transmit more efficiently and cause more severe illness in winter.
6. My other area of concern is the long-term impact of #COVID19 in children. We’re told it’s mild and largely harmless, but we were told exactly the same things about adults. There are increasing reports of children suffering #LongCovid with cardiac and breathing issues.
7. Until we know more about what this virus does, it would seem sensible to do everything possible to reduce transmission risk. When masks have been shown to be so effective at reducing transmission, why are we not making them part of the school uniform?
8. Developing an understanding of the characteristics of this virus led me to support an innovative, groundbreaking approach to tackling #COVID19 , so as troubling as all this might seem, I’m optimistic that whether it’s @Ligandal or something else, we will find a solution.
