#uxaustralia #uxaustralia2020
Woody was born and raised in Yorkshire, and started his career in agencies in London and now resides in Sydney.
Woody is a Product Manager for @batyrAus, a young persons preventative mental health organisation.

7/30 young people are experiences issues with mental health, 70% won't seek help because of stigma.
"There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go up river and find out why they're falling in." — Desmund Tutu
Woody is reflecting on his own experience with mental illness, when his Grandad was sick back home, he was uncertain with his work visa and his relationship was struggling.
8 people die by suicide in Australia every day.
Woody went through every tier of the mental health system.

He was told that there was a 2 month waiting list for a psychologist — he managed to put his name down on the cancellation list and ended up getting a session in 2 weeks.
This was the inspiration for his book, focussed on speaking about his experience and what helped him.

Many people saw vulnerability as a weakness.

"Vulnerability is the birthplace of creativity, innovation and change." — @BreneBrown
Woody leaned on the team at @designtobias to help create the book.

The went through the design process to define the purpose and goals of the book.
How might we provide people something quick and easy to use but with valuable guidance.
They conducted research to discover how mental illness symptoms can be shown visually.
