2/ A screen image of the "Border Patriots" group, showing a variation of the #SDsheriff address as their own.

In June, a group claimed to have "permission" from the Sheriff's office to be out after curfew to help with "protecting personal property." kpbs.org/news/2020/jun/…

3/ The original #KPBS article referred to these armed civilians as "would-be vigilantes."

When it was pointed out that their actions in #Santee made them "actual" vigilantes- they updated their report.

4/ In December 2017 @SDSheriff issued a memo stating there were "no injuries...or other crimes reported" at an event near the border, despite evidence of people being attacked and injured.

Once again: Deputies stood by & failed to intervene or file reports.

5/ Complaints were filed with the County Law Enforcement Review Board (CLERB) pointing out that carrying sticks that could be used as weapons is illegal in #SanDiego County- yet none of the men in these photos were cited or arrested.

6/ In response to the complaints re:sticks, CLERB issued the following findings (Report 17-143): While "dowels" were not permitted at the event to carry "banners"- their use to carry "flags" was not prohibited.

Note to CLERB: "The Star Spangled Banner" is all about a flag.

7/ This is how the use of weapons by white men is made legal:

In #SanDiego: Deputies ignored men using dowels to display the US flag which is not a banner.

Therefore: they were not violating the ordinance.

In Kenosha: Police ignored an AK-47 in the hands of an underage teen.
