If you think the big reason Conservatives hate the BBC is because they can't profit from it, you're hugely mistaken

Of course, there are some juicy assets to carve up & sell at a discount to their friends & family there, but that's not what drives Tory hatred

The reason they loathe the BBC is because it stands as a bulwark against the essence of their ideology

Whether news or drama, every show the BBC produces shares the same basic principles

Racism: bad
Poverty: bad
Hate: bad
Caring: good
Society: good
Facts: good
..and so on

It's seen as jewel in the national crown, not only by most at home, but globally, & thus very difficult to destroy

..to undermine the BBC at every opportunity. In the so-called 'culture wars' (an invention of the right), the BBC clinging to its core virtues of fairness, & decency seems increasingly progressive, but that's largely because the right wing's been dragged so far to the extreme

To allow the BBC to be defunded, decayed & ultimately destroyed by right wing ideologues is to finally submit to a society based on callousness & selfishness, and an end to what we have claimed for generations to be true British values.

We must fight for it.

The Tory press are delighted that the Conservative govt has finally managed to appoint an ideological right wing vandal to be in charge of the BBC.

Expect a constant, coordinated chorus of demands to defund, destabilise & dismantle the organisation.
