How anyone who respects #vets wouldn't crawl thru mud to #VoteBiden is beyond me.

After reading Trump's shameful comments, I Googled the name of the #POW whose name I wore on my wrist for years. What I learned couldn't stand in starker contrast to @realDonaldTrump.
#POW Cpt Lynn Guenther was shot down & spent 14 months in the infamous Hanoi Hilton. He said the experience taught him "the real meaning of tolerance and love - tolerance for those around us and love for the country and world we live in" (link below). nara.getarchive.net/media/former-p…
.@realDonaldTrump You didn't avoid #Vietnam b/c you were a Conscientious Objector. You cooked up a #bonespur because you're a coward & have no commitment to serving others. Here's the #POW whose name I wore on my wrist during the War. nara.getarchive.net/media/former-p…
"I loved flying & I had no feelings about the war. It was a job that had to be done," #POW whose name I wore said. "I regret that. I never took the time to get up on the news of the world. I was living in my own little world, as a lot of Americans are.” nytimes.com/1973/03/11/arc…
Trump doesn't respect #POWs enough to listen to men like Cpt Lynn Guenther who told the NYTimes, “I think tolerance was probably the biggest thing I learned in that year. Before, I was very narrow‐minded and opinionated. I didn't care what anyone else's point was.”
The #POW whose name I wore during #Vietnam extended this tolerance even to his guards: “They were the enemy, but they were still human beings. We treated them with the respect you'd treat any human being, and because of the attitude we had, they returned the respect" (NYT).
The #POW whose name I wore called on Congress to end the war over Hanoi radio, later saying “You know as well as I do we allow free speech in this country," adding none of his statements in "any way degraded" the US.

Unlike things Trump says daily. nytimes.com/1973/02/28/arc…
The #POW whose name I wore told NYT he thought the US should give aid to North #Vietnam after all #POWs were released & all #MIAs accounted for because that's what the US did after wars in Europe: “I go along with our Government's policy."

Unlike Trump.
The #POW whose name I wore during the war retired as an #AirForce Colonel O-6. The US officially recognized Lynn Guenther as an American #hero by awarding him the #Legion of Merit for actions during peacetime, dedication to duty, & unsurpassed leadership.

The Legion of Merit citation for the #POW whose name I wore during the war notes he saved valuable assets & fostered squadron unity & teamwork.

Trump has squandered US assets, fostered division, & cost tens of 1000s of Americans their lives because he has no concept of teamwork.
My father & grandfathers stretching back to the American Revolution served. I'm a peace activist because I respect #veterans & think they should never be put in harm's way unnecessarily.

Trump disagrees, as this #GoldStar dad puts it plainly.

Former #POW Lynn Guenther told the Hood River News in 03 that "his basic philosophy has been that life on this earth is precious & needs to be lived and enjoyed to its fullest."

Trump thinks he's got nothing to learn from #veterans like Col Guenther. He couldn't be more wrong.
Former #POW Lynn Guenther tells the story of his years before the #VietnamWar & his 14 months in the infamous Hanoi Hilton: pownetwork.org/bios/g/g091.htm
Guenther uses the word tolerance as I do: as active respect for views different than your own. The "action of bearing hardship" is the word's earliest meaning. Like Guenther, my family's hardship (with #disability) reinforced our commitment to tolerance, openness, & respect.
Mother--What a story. I remember so clearly the day Daddy & I bought #POW bracelets. I would drag myself thru crushed glass to #VoteBiden & protect the country my father loved & served from Trump's corruption, racism, & incompetence. I know you would too. @janpurcell2 @JameyP21
