Let’s go. It’s great to be here instead of going to read over 100 messages (just from the last 3 days) in my DM. But errrrmmmm....that’s not going to be today. 😁😁😁. Even Jesus Christ rested.
Okay, It’s not that I was a failure in school. Far from it! I had distinctions in all my economics electives in school. I also have my SSCE certificate (not affidavit) and it’s a distinction as well.
But I hated the @TheEconomist magazine because it was always looking like Greek to me then.
One of my best friends, Ayo Soyinka, was always subscribing to Economist magazine from our early days at Arthur Andersen. The 🙄 boy (yes, he is a boy) was just using that to oppress us, along with his old VW Golf car.
Yes, he was the only rich boy in our caucus then. You get?
It was not until Dr Doyin Salami taught me during my MBA at @LBSNigeria (Economic Environment of Business) that I caught up with Economics.
He made us to get our “hands dirty” with economics. The fear of disgrace during the quest for class participation forced us to read up.
Fast forward to some years after I completed my MBA.
I “mistakenly” picked up an @TheEconomist magazine during a @British_Airways flight from Lagos to London. On arrival at Heathrow, I realized that I have spent 5+ hours on Economist magazine.
What! I couldn’t believe it.
That was a transformation. That was real learning from a great teacher. Yes, Dr Salami is a great teacher 🙌🏽 and he also has “swags” too.
For me, that economics course along with SPEB by Prof Wale Ajai, Marketing by Dr Malcolm, Finance by Dr Larry Osa-Asafiana and Law by Prof Fabian Ajogwu were the topmost value addition (to me) during my MBA program.
There were definitely many other great faculty apart from the above.
Prof Wale Ajai literarily influenced my choice of doctoral research focus. Infact, he wrote one of my references that enhanced my admission to @CranfieldUni for my DBA. Great man!
For those that have been compiling several online certificates since the #COVID19 lockdown started, well done!
But, be sincere to yourself....are you really getting any value addition from those programs? If not, stop it!
Don’t waste your time chasing certificates, #YouTube has several free videos in that skill that you really needed. Focus on that skill. Follow that mentor on #YouTube or anywhere and get inspired. Be inspired. Chase your goal.
Follow your dreams and passion, especially the profitable ones.
On education, the FGN needs to grant full autonomy to the schools, issue clear KPIs (admission, teaching, research, infrastructure quality, graduates’ placement rates), and then regulate.
Let me attempt to answer @ItsChristy__ ‘s question 😁
Apparently, she went back to negotiate the termination clause.
The company had a policy that termination or resignation required 4-weeks notice with no payment-in-lieu.
She didn't like it. It limits her flexibility to switch to a new job if such an opportunity comes.
They agreed to give her a waiver because they desperately needed her.
The company now agreed to amend the clause to say that both parties could terminate the employment contract with one week notice or payment in lieu. The updated employment letter was signed.
Thanks Prof @yomitheprof for this article. While your conclusions are not aligned with my views on this topic, I believe that most of the arguments are logical and fair.
I believe that some of the issues raised should drive the discussion for the first amendment to #CAMA2020 😁
Yomi’s article is actually the best non pro-CAMA article that I have seen - it came with strong logic that is devoid of unnecessary emotions and sentiments.
Let me just share my thoughts on some of the issues raised.
