Breakup au (happy ending I promise)

Wonder duo. It was a messy break up that seemed to be the hardest it could have been the whole way. Deku couldn’t stop crying while he packed up his things. Katsuki avoided the apartment for days till he was gone.

They both ended up taking a sudden leave of absence for a month.

Assuming the other could have the awful task of telling their friends and colleagues about the split. But instead everyone thought they had taken a vacation together. Their first day back was... hard. Seeing each other was so painful, and everyone was telling them how glad

They were that the two took some time off. When someone asked where they went and if it was a romantic getaway Deku couldn’t hold in his tears. When he ran away to the bathroom all eyes landed on Katsuki.

“We fuckin broke up a month ago assholes” was all he muttered before

Leaving to go on his patrol.

After that, things were weird. No one wanted to ask either of them about it. Too scared to make Deku cry, and too scared to be blown to bits by Katsuki.

It took a while before Deku really said anything about it. Surprisingly he was the one who

Avoided The other the longest. Katsuki tried to talk to him, strictly about work stuff of course. Only getting noises and single work replies from Deku. He also noticed how Deku would turn down hallways, into bathrooms, even fake phone calls when Katsuki came around just to

Avoid a possible conversation. But the two quickly fell back into their habits and threw themselves into work. Suddenly 6 months had passed.

Their conversations had slowly grown to short sentences. Other then that they still avoided each other. Neither having actually

Delt with their feelings and being too hard headed to even try. They were both hurt, and sad, they missed each other so much. It was like they had both fallen back into high school when they were pining for each other. Being dumb while everyone around them suffered.

One night

Deku had to stay late at the office to finish up paperwork. Since the slip he did everything at work because taking it back to his moms place was too much of a hassle. What he didn’t expect was Katsuki come back late from patrol. When he came in, a little scuffed up from his

Shift and tired from the day the two just froze and stared at each other. This was the first time they had been only since the breakup. The tension in the air was thick, but it wasn’t as simple as just an uncomfortable feeling.

No, it was thousands of unsaid words,

Unshared feelings. Deku was the first to break eye contact, looking down at the work infront of him. He knew he wouldn’t be finishing it due to the fact his vision wouldn’t even focus on the words on the paper. Katsuki went and changed, planning to just leave and avoid Deku

Completely. But as he went to pass the room with their desks his heart ached. As much as he pretended he wasn’t hurt, as much as he pushed away his feelings. His heart wouldn’t move on. Being near Deku, seeing him, hearing his voice, all of it made him yearn so strongly for

What they had. He was so stupid to have let anything take Deku away from him.

He sighed and went back into the room and over to Deku’s desk. “Let me walk you home”

Deku looked up when Katsuki walked over and looked surprised at the request. “Huh? I’m not done working

Kac-Katsuki.. just go on without me” He tried to look back down. They hadn’t been this close in months, he could feel his heart beat in his ears. He wanted to reach out and grab Katsuki, hold him close and sob and apologize for everything.

“It’s late, we can grab something

To eat. Come on, you can finish that up tomorrow” Katsuki’s voice was surprisingly soft. He was hoping, damn near praying that Deku would agree.

And even though Deku thought it was a horrible idea, one that would end with him crying into his pillow for the hundredth time he

Couldn’t ignore the pull in his heart. “Ok” He put away his things and got up. “But you’re buying” He headed out with him.

The two walked mostly in silence, both being tired from the day was probably the reason. That and there wasn’t much that could be said. The both had

So much they wanted to say. Wanted to declare, wanted to apologize about. But it felt too late, like it wouldn’t change anything. When they stopped for food Katsuki ordered without even having to ask what Deku wanted. Like it was just the same as back in the day.

He handed Deku’s his food and they ate, sitting at a small table along the street. The silence was starting to get under Katsuki’s skin. “How’s Inko” He asked between bites, noticing how it seemed to bring Deku out of his thoughts.

“Good, glad that I’m home..”

Deku bites his lip and finishes his food. He can’t think of a counter question and before long their on their way again.

They arrive at Deku’s house much too fast, Katsuki even frowns a little when he sees it.

When they come to a stop at the bottom of the stairs the two

Can feel that tension again.

“Well, thanks for walking me.. good night..” Deku turns to head up the stairs, but when he feels a warm hand grab his own he stops.

His heart is beating so heard in his chest, he’s not even sure if he’s breathing.

Katsuki looks at their hands

Thinking about how he used to stare and trace the look of Deku’s hands into his mind in the early mornings. How his favorite thing was feeling Deku’s rough finger tips touch his skin when he fell asleep before Deku.

Being without Deku made him feel so... small. He was scared

Scared of ruining what they may have left, but he was more scared of never being able to have Deku back.

“I miss you” Katsuki says in such a soft voice, he didn’t even know he was capable. He gently brings Deku’s hand you to his face and kisses it.

Deku closes his eyes,

Trying to contain the tears starting to fill his eyes. He should be mad, should tell him to stop, should pull away.. shouldn’t he? “..I miss you too..”

Katsuki moved closer and turns Deku to face him, their faces much closer since Deku made it on the first step.

“There’s a lot

That needs to be said. A lot that needs to be worked out.. but I’ll do anything to have you back.. “

That’s when Deku’s eyes snap open, he’s looking at Katsuki so expectantly. Despite it being night there’s a shine in Deku’s eyes that Katsuki almost thought he’d never see

Again. “Kacchan..”

“I love you, Izuku. Please” Katsuki says and moves closer.

Deku doesn’t stop as the tears roll down his cheeks. He slips his arms around Katsuki’s neck and kissed him. He feels like his heart is going to explode but he’s so happy.

Katsuki wraps his arms

around Deku’s waist and pull him close like he’s trying to close all the distance they’ve had these last months. When he finally breaks the kiss he bumps their foreheads together. “Think I love would mind if I stayed over? I don’t think I can sleep another night without you baby”

Deku laughs and gently plays with the hair on the back of Katsuki’s neck. “No but you have to behave, and she might give us a lecture in the morning. “

“It’s worth it”

They make their way inside, being quiet at such a late hour. They lay in Deku’s small bed together, wrapped

in each others arms so tight that it fits them fine.

Neither of them thought they would ever be this happy again. As they’re dosing off Katsuki feels those same rough fingers gently touch his cheek. “I love you Kacchan.. so much.. I missed you so much..” when his voice breaks a

little Katsuki rubs his back gently. “Me too, I’m never letting you go again.”

The two fall asleep, holding each other close, their hearts finally starting to heal.

In the morning Inko is, to say the least, surprised. But she doesn’t give them a lecture. She just takes both

their hands. “Love is one of the hardest things to find. Even if you think you’ve lost it, if you work hard you can find it once again. “ She’s of course sad Deku will be leaving but she’s so happy to see him happy again.

After they work through things, both coming to terms

with their own faults and what they need to work on they’re happier then they were before. And this time when they take a leave it’s to have their honeymoon.
