The Rhine was cleaned for the third time during the great "cleanup" - again from the source in Switzerland to the mouth near Rotterdam. A total of 300 groups took part. In each of the Rhine metropolises of Düsseldorf and Cologne,
more than 2,000 people took part in the campaign. "These people have understood: this is not their rubbish, but it is our planet," said initiator Joachim Umbach. Umbach is hoping for a change in awareness: Garbage does not belong in nature.
The "cleanup" took place for the first time on the Moselle and Ruhr: around 10,000 helpers were on duty on the Moselle and around 5000 on the Ruhr. A total of 70 tons of rubbish were collected on the banks of the two tributaries of the Rhine.
