The #COVID19 Vaccine is Strongly Encouraged for Pregnant Persons. Here’s why it’s REALLY important 🧵
1⃣ Pregnancy is associated with elevated risk of severe illness
2⃣ The vaccine is safe and does NOT raise risk of miscarriage
3⃣ The vaccine protects mothers and their babies
1⃣ Pregnant persons are at greater risk of severe illness from COVID-19. This meta-analysis demonstrated that, when compared to non-pregnant reproductive aged women, pregnant persons were more likely to be admitted to the ICU and require ventilation bmj.com/content/370/bm…
1⃣ Pregnant persons with COVID-19 are also more likely to deliver preterm, can have increased risk of maternal death, and their babies are more likely to be admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit when compared to those pregnant without COVID-19 bmj.com/content/370/bm…
I believe that many sentiments, which have recently been put forth, regarding Sweden’s approach to #COVID19 overlook a critical metric. I would like to discuss some of my thoughts.
Incessant rising in cases warrants the question: are hospitals prepared for the associated influx of patients?
Further admissions require beds, PPE, ventilators, staff etc. What happens when resources run out, ventilators are all in use, or there aren’t enough staff?

Ultimately, scarcity of medical resources may pressure healthcare practitioners to decide who receives care. This is NOT a question anyone should ever have to answer.
Resources should never be the limiting factor of care
