The Hathras gangrape victim passed away.
Speak about the reality of assaults on Dalit women and girls. Connect dots, show larger picture of structural violence against Dalits, Dalit women. Don't isolate, exceptionalise this case as a gruesome aberration.
With 51,824 cases of crime against SCs registered under PoA Act between 2009 and 2018, UP ranks 1st among in the category with 22.38% of total crime. Speak about justice in those 51824 (& more) cases if you're interested in justice for the #Hathras victim. newsclick.in/crimes-dalits-…
Cases of atrocities against dalits & adivasis have increased by 281.75% & 575.33%, respectively, from 2009 to 2018, recorded under PoA Act, which also has abysmally low conviction rate. How many prime time TV anchors, shedding tears for #Hathras victim now, spoke of this?
Of all crimes committed against the members of the Scheduled Castes, the highest are against Dalit women—the 2016 National Crime Records Bureau, the last data released nationally, show. newindianexpress.com/thesundaystand…
Report on specific struggles for justice, specific hurdles faced by survivors, victims' families. Also, always show the larger picture to push for systemic change. Change the mindset that denies caste based atrocities.
"Why mention caste of victim in a case of rape" - common question. 1) If the woman was raped BECAUSE she is Dalit, as Bhanwari Devi (see next tweet for deets) was, her caste matters. 2) A Dalit woman has greater difficulty accessing justice in the system (Bhanwari case for eg)
Bhanwari Devi, a Dalit saathin educating communities against child marriage in Rajasthan, was gang raped by upper caste men as her husband Mohan was forced to watch. Court said it didn't happen coz upper caste men wouldn't touch a Dalit woman. counterview.net/2018/10/metoo-…
The court also shamed Mohan ji, her husband, saying would any man stand by and watch his wife raped? He must be lying. Bhanwari and her husband faced ostracisation for pursuing the case (no justice yet). Mohan ji, who stood by her through thick & thin, passed away yesterday
Will any media outlet, outraging about #Hathras gangrape, remind you that no justice for gangrape of Dalit woman Bhanwari Devi, emboldens such gang rapes? Will they pay tribute to Mohan ji, such a remarkable man who himself was victim of the atrocity inflicted on his wife?

A 🧵- on why struggles & resistance in 🍉 ,
Syria, Ukraine, struggles against anti fascist/authoritarian regimes/forces in India, Brazil, Iran, China, US, UK, European countries, Sahel nations etc need to support each other, & demand the same from allies.
We often like to talk of double standards on 🇺🇦& 🍉, saying brown lives, Arab lives, Muslim lives aren’t valued as much as white ones. But do we value all brown/Arab/Muslim lives? Or do we select solidarities based on camps of some kind?
In 🍉 missiles are 🇺🇸 & in Syria they’re 🇷🇺. In 🇺🇦 missiles are 🇷🇺 & drones are from🇮🇷. What Net@ny@hu does in G@z@ Assad does in Syria, Putin in Ukraine. But if you oppose I3r@el do you also oppose Putin, Assad, 🇮🇷? And if you oppose Putin,
Assad,
🇮🇷 do you oppose Net@ny@hu?

What's your response to
- a 7-year-old boy & his mum burnt alive in an ambulance by a Meitei chauvinist mob?
- a 20-year old Kuki girl being thrashed by a mob while Meitei women shout "Rape her! Torture her! Cut her into pieces!"
If your first response is to scold or lecture me (or "mainland media" for cherry-picking cases & focusing more on Meitei mob massacres than on Kuki militants & Indian Army, you need to stop & take a closer look at yourself.
Instead of asking me why I am blowing these atrocities out of proportion, ask yourself why you are more outraged at some tweet of mine than at chauvinist outfits being able to get people to participate in these horrific crimes?
Thread: #Putin on Feb 1: Under guise of "democracy & freedom" imperialist West forces the world to accept LGBT" perversion; but Russia will not allow Western imperialists to pervert Russia's unique civilisation, culture, "family values" that r based on Russian Orthodox Church
@nramind on Feb 22 at @ruscult_chennai:
Ukraine's been tied to Russia since "the history of Russian Orthodox Church" & it's impossible for Ukraine to sever those "historic ties", even "with support of most reactionary forces in the world."
Who released these posters & why? Why echo the Sanghi "Hijab OR Kitab" narrative? Why "pehle hijab fir kitab', why not 'hijab bhi, kitab bhi'? 🤮 "Precious things shd b kept covered"?! NO, women are not "things", rape isn't theft of "precious things". #thread
Some (not all) of these posters & statements are old but show how "Precious things shd be covered", like "stay in your veil & the world will stay in line" "Don’t cross Lakshman rekha, you won't be raped' is rape culture, victim blaming. #HijabisOurRight struggle says the opposite
As our statement against #HijabBan says: What women choose to wear whether they choose to cover or uncover, is a matter of ‘choice’. Cannot be a measure of modesty and immodesty. True for patriarchal imposition of religious practices across the spectrum. bit.ly/3gBo6yL
@ghazalawahab Ghazala, I’m sorry, I’m rather shocked at your position. You’re missing the Islamophobic wood for the patriarchal trees. Who has the power in this situation? It’s the principal & the Sangh not the Muslim parents. See my thread addressing various arguments & scenarios.
@ghazalawahab The argument that hijab isn’t mandated by Islam is one to be had with anyone shaming Muslim women for NOT wearing it - not with Sanghis who are denying Muslim women education for wearing it. +
@ghazalawahab As for “who is teaching them to fight for this” - they can see the unfairness & Islamophobia in the ban, & the natural & just response is to resist it not to bow down before it.
