HOW TO END SARS BRUTALITY IN NIGERIA?

In one of his speeches in Detroit, in 1963, El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz aka Malcolm X (May 19, 1925- Feb 21, 1965) said: "Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery." Image
2/ For the umpteenth time, I'll be baring my mind on demonic issues of Police Brutality, Extortions & Killings, perpetrated against hardworking Nigerians, by
countless rogue units, rank and file of the @PoliceNG, in cahoots with their superiors, including IGP Abubakar Adamu👇 Image
3/ In my brief earthly sojourn, I've interacted with Police personnels from the UK, U.S. & Italy. Nigeria is about the only country where bonafide citizens going about their normal daily businesses are stopped at random on roadways by rogue @PoliceNG personnels, for extortion. ImageImageImage
4/ Globally, including the U.S. with over 17,985 DECENTRALISED/INDEPENDENT police agencies, no officer blocks free flow of traffic, randomly stopping pedestrians & motorists, asking useless questions- "Who are you?" "Where are you coming from?" "What is in your trunk/boot?" Image
5/ Nigeria is about the only country where @PoliceNG who are supposed to protect bonafide citizens, maintain law and order, have morphed themselves into oppressors of hardworking Nigerians, and have themselves become law breakers.

The rots have worsened under IGP Adamu👇 Image
6/ In the past, many a rogue men & officers of @PoliceNG, including the notorious SARS unit, nicodemusly carryout their impunity, as there was an X-SQUAD which constantly monitors their activities & interactions with Nigerians, undercover, across roadways, to keep them in check. Image
7/ Under IGP Mohammed Adamu, the @PoliceNG now constantly sends 'armed-robbers,' 'kidnappers' & dregs of the society to Nigerian roadways, to daily block the free flow of traffic, extort, assault, kidnap, maim & kill ordinary & hardworking Nigerians for unjustified reasons. ImageImageImage
8/ Worst still, when struggling Nigerians heaved a sigh of relief that given the advent of cashless policy introduced by the @OfficialPDPNig in Nigeria, high cases of armedrobbery were now a thing of the past.

Hell no, men in @PoliceNG uniforms are now the latest armedrobbers. Image
9/ Under IGP Adamu, men in @PoliceNG uniforms now carry POS to extort Nigerians.

Despite complaints, Nigerians are regaled with:

Your complaint is hereby acknowledged and investigation has been initiated. Your tracking number is bla bla bla. Thank you for contacting NPF-CRU. ImageImageImageImage
10/ I don't believe in the campaign to #EndSARS. The unit was created in 1992 by then CP Simeon Midenda to address rising incidences of violent crimes such as armedrobbery & kidnapping in Lagos State.

As stated by H.E. @atiku, today, SARS must go back to status quo ante. ImageImageImage
11/ I, insist, to bring about Accountability; Rejig Nigeria's Internal Security Architecture, there is urgent need to Decentralise @PoliceNG into 37 Independent States Police, 774+ Independent Local Police Depts.

MAJOR BENEFITS👇

threadreaderapp.com/thread/1227961…

ImageImageImageImage
12/ Pending when @PoliceNG is Decentralised via an Act of Parliament:

I. Govs must begin to act as CEOs of States, thus, doing more to #EndSARSBrutality, #EndPoliceBrutality.

II. IGP Adamu must dismantle all @PoliceNG roadblocks/checkpoints of extortion across Nigeria. Image
13/ III. @PoliceNG must stop the random stopping, pulling over of motorists (ordinary Nigerians), going about their normal daily businesses for no just cause.

The world over, including the U.S., for a Police officer to pull you over, you must have committed a traffic violation. ImageImageImageImage
14/ IV. The world over, including the U.S., cops ensure security of lives & property through Motorised Surveillance or Roadside Surveillance (not roadblocks that block free flow of traffic).

@PoliceNG must quit wasting precious time of hardworking Nigerians through roadblocks. ImageImage
15/ V. In saner climes, cops only pull you over if:

- You got a valid arrest warrant
- Committed traffic violations like driving beyond/below posted speed limits
- Not using your turn signals before changing lane or exiting an intersection
- Driving with no no. plate/ sticker. Image
16/ VI In saner climes, cops only pull you over if you:

- Drive with broken head/tail lights.
- Ride with a child not properly restrained at the back seat.
- Drive without seat belts on.
- Drive with your brights in inner-city roads especially when the climate ain't foggy. Image
17/ VII. In saner climes like the U.S., among other rules of the road, dependent on the State, City & Municipality, impaired/reckless driving as a result of alchohol/drug 'll get one pulled over (from the rear) by the Police. A field sobriety/breathe analysing test is required. ImageImageImage
18/ VIII. No Police officer in saner climes will endanger the life of a motorist through road rages, double-crossings, an ugly characteristics of @PoliceNG, particularly, men of the rogue unit called SARS.

Mr. @frankmbablog, let your boss, the IGP know these are SHAMEFUL ACTS. Image
19/ Subsequently, I'll counsel Nigerians, men & officers of @PoliceNG, on how cops in saner climes make traffic stops.

That said, it is high time IGP Adamu called his men & officers to order before they push aggrieved Nigerians to their breaking points, as cited by Malcolm X👆 ImageImage
20/ END- Among other things, to #EndSARSBrutality, #EndPoliceBrutality against struggling Nigerian youths, once again, I urge our own Comrades @YeleSowore, @adeyanjudeji, @henryshield, @AriyoAristotle, et al, to take this PILOT TEST (battle) to @PoliceNG Headquarters in Abuja. ImageImage

THE URGENT NEED FOR A COMPETITIVE MEDIA INDUSTRY IN NIGERIA

Yesterday, I read the @StateDept report, saw uncountable angles and smiled.

@OfficialAPCNg-leaned media like @TheNationNews went to press with the #EndSARS angle.

Today, @GazetteNGR is giving us another angle👇
2/ In several threads, I've continued to advocate for a #CompetitiveMediaIndustry in today's Nigeria

As it operates in the U.S., Nigeria, particularly, during the First Republic (1960-1966), had a #CompetitiveMediaIndustry, when the Media leaned towards Political Parties.
3/ Nigeria's First Republic (1960-1966) had newspapers like the West African Pilot which leaned towards Nnamdi Azikiwe's National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC); @nigeriantribune which leaned towards Obafemi Awolowo's Action Group (AG)...

#NIGERIADECIDES2023: THE REAL ISSUE

Yesterday, @AriyoAristotle gave a scoop on the behemoth against the smooth passage of a clean #ElectoralBill towards a clean 2023 polls. The last 24hours, one had expected vehement reactions against SP Ahmad Lawan & his led @NGRSenate, zilch.
2/ At a public hearing, Dec 9, 2020, @NGRSenate & @HouseNGR assured the #ElectoralBill 'll be passed on or before March 31, 2021.

Today is March 30, 2021, but feelers from @nassnigeria, indicate the @DrAhmadLawan-led @NGRSenate ain't committed towards a clean elections in 2023.
3/ Irrespective of the political leaning, a clean #AmendedElectoralAct should concern you. Such Act should:

- Allow @inecnigeria call for nominations at least 360days to election & submission of candidates lists not later than 6months. This solves pre-election litigation issues.

BE GUIDED @MaziNnamdiKanu. Ahead 2023, restrategise to pull the political strings in Alaigbo with the #YouthPower you got.

Your men- ESN clashed with soldiers/police in Orlu axis leading to loss of lives. But innocent people are now charged for murder?👇

sunnewsonline.com/9-esn-suspects…
2/ Since Jan 22, 2021 that joint taskforce of @HQNigerianArmy, @PoliceNG & DSS invaded Orlu & its environs abducting innocent men & women, with 9 now being charged for murder, how many Igbo Politicians, paid with tax payers money- Govs, Senators, Reps, etc have reacted? ImageImage
3/ NONE! I've reached out to SE Senators to intervene on the @PoliceNG incarceration of innocent Umuigbo, but zilch.

Dear @MaziNnamdiKanu, conceding that ESN is a security stop-gap, it needs the legitimacy of law. Will cowards masquerading as leaders in Alaigbo support you? NO! ImageImage

Gov. @elrufai, you've lived in the U.S., UK, but learnt nothing. Why build roads without:

1. Speed Limits
2. Stop Signs
3. Traffic Lights
4. Yellow Lines Dividing Traffic in Opposite Direction
5. White Lines Dividing Traffic in Same Direction
6. Turning Lanes
7. Speed Breakers?
This is 2021. @NigeriaGov, @elrufai, other State Govs & LG Chairs must realise there are essential Roadway Signs, Traffic Signals, Pavement Markings which come with road constructions.

WAY FORWARD
Decentralise @FRSCNigeria. Let all 36 States + Abuja develop their own Road Rules. Image
FG, @kfayemi-led NGF & LG chairs should stop behaving like illiterates. Build roads with:

- Deep, Closed Drainages
- Walkways
- Streetlights
- Regulatory Signs: e.g., One Way, Stop Sign.
- Warning Signs: e.g., Pedestrian Crosswalk, School Signs
- Guide Signs: e.g. Route Markers Image

#DAY42: March 5, 2021 is exactly 42 days since Rev. Paulinus Offor, presiding minister HPICC, Umudim-Okporo, Orlu LGA, Imo State was abducted by @PoliceNG authorities.

@Govhopeuzodinma & CP Nasiru Mohammed should unconditionally release this innocent man to his church & family. ImageImageImageImage
2/ Rev Offor was abducted when a joint taskforce of the 34 Brigade, Owerri; 302 Artillery Regiment, Onitsha & the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response wrongly invaded HPICC Okporo during its morning devotion, on Friday, Jan 22, 2021.

ATT: @frankmbablog @PoliceNG_CRU ImageImageImageImage
3/ In search of ESN, the taskforce in what was an intelligence error invaded HPICC, Okporo Jan 22. The team lead acknowledged this error, asking for a ceasefire. 42days after, why is Imo CP Nasiru Mohammed still incarcerating Rev. Offor, mulling to charge him on trump-up charges? Image

SEARCH FOR JUSTICE?
Dear @Govhopeuzodinma, you're aware of d Jan 22, 2021 invasion of Jude Okporo's church in Okporo, leading to the abduction, illegal incarceration of Rev Paulinus Offor. Offor is an innocent man, not a terrorist nor murderer as alleged by the State & @PoliceNG. ImageImageImageImage
2/ Since the 1960s, Jude Okporo's church has contributed largely to the spiritual, economic growth & development of Imo State, & Nigeria at large.

Dear @Govhopeuzodinma, do use your good offices to secure the immediate release of Rev Offor. The wrong place was invaded on Jan 22. Image
3/ I'm aware Personnel of the 34 Brigade, Owerri; 302 Artillery Regiment, Onitsha, as well as the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team acknowledged they invaded the wrong place on the said day. If that was the case, Rev Offor shouldn't be incarcerated till date. Image
