Wokeness/Social Justice is not Marxism. The only thing it takes from Marxism is conflict theory. The rest comes from Critical Theory and Postmodernism. To say Social Justice is Marxism is like comparing the current Ford Mustang to the 1930's Model T, or a computer to an abacus...
We are dealing with something new, abd acting as though we can treat it the way we treat Marxism is a huge mistake.
Social Justice and Postmodernism will eat us for breakfast if we do that.
Getting it right matters, and we can't do that if we are not precise.
I did a thread on Social Justice/wokeness in the church you can find here:
1/ The woke are not trying to win the culture war against liberals intellectually, they are trying to win SOCIALLY.
The woke don't fight academically with evidence and reason.
They fight SOCIALLY using power moves to take over institutions and bullying tactics to shut us up.
2/ The woke do not want to merely participate in liberal democratic society; allowing their ideas to be carefully scrutinized by our academic, cultural and democratic institutions.
The woke want to SEIZE POWER in those institutions, and mutate them into institutions of wokeness.
3/ So the tactics adopted by the woke were developed for seizing institutional, cultural, and political power, not for discovering the truth. If it works to send social media mobs after people to get them fired so woke people can take their jobs works, then that is what they do.
These terms are everywhere, and they do not mean what most people think they mean. These terms are loaded, and I'd like to show you what under the surface of "diversity, equity, and inclusion" initiatives.
A Thread:
2/ When most of us hear "diversity," we might think: "make sure our group has people with different ideas, perspectives, and viewpoints, so we can look at whatever problems we face from many different angles."
This is *NOT* what Social Justice means by diversity.
3/ Sometimes people hear "diversity" and think: "make sure not to discriminate against people because of what they look like; if you do you'll end up rejecting good people and leaving 'talent on the table'."
Again, this is also *NOT* what Social Justice means by diversity
Well educated people: professors, consultants, and authors, are attacking the woman Trump nominated to the Supreme Court for adopting orphans from Haiti.
In woke-world this is normal and I'll explain why
A thread:
2/ This is Amy Coney Barret with her family.
Keep this image in mind as we examine the horrible things the woke have said. We need to remember both who is being attacked, and who's hurting because of it. This isn't just an academic exercise, people are hurting.
Ok, Let's begin:
3/ We can't understand how this attack works, or what motivates it until we understand the theory motivating the attack: Critical Race Theory (CRT).
CRT is one of the most poisonous, noxious, toxic theories to ever come out of academia, and it's what's driving this attack.
The idea of "White Privilege" is everywhere...and it's NOT what you think.
So, let's talk about it:
A THREAD🧵
2/ The idea of white privilege has spread through society like wild fire since about 2013.
A lot of people think that the basic concept of white privilege is "white people face less racism then black people."
This is NOT what the term means
3/ The woke play a game with "white privilege" where they alternate between two positions: an extreme position they really believe and talk about openly when they won't be attacked, and a far more modest position they fall back on and defend when anyone questions them.
-Ibram Kendi, Author of: "How To Be An Antiracist," "Be Antiracist," and "Antiracist baby."
If you ever wanted proof that wokeness is a sham and it's academics are total frauds, there it is.
So, let's talk about Antiracism
A THREAD🧵
2/ Race in America is a difficult topic, and must be dealt with carefully, rigorously, and with an eye to helping people grow, learn, and heal. Americans of all races want to put an end to racism, and doing that means getting this stuff right.
It MATTERS.
3/ Antiracism is neither careful nor rigorous.
Look at Ibram Kendi: first he says people have the ability to be antiracist, then he says no one ever becomes antiracist.
How are regular people supposed to make sense of this as they try to understand difficult racial issues?
More Hypocrisy! @mbeisen also attacked the NumPy computer science Paper for having 26 male authors no women...
but he had no problem participating in a paper with 14 male authors and 0 women, getting credit, and putting it on his website:
@mbeisen don't virtue signal and say things you do not mean.
If you really think your career has been a failure, and that science is a flawed system...then resign. Quit wringing your hands and dithering....resign.
Don't bluff. Follow through.
The hypocrisy never ends
When I pull up one of his old papers @mbeisen wants to be let off with an admission of guilt, but when it came to the NumPy paper he says we shouldn't absolve people of their failings.
Ok, why should we absolve @mbeisen and let him keep running a LAB?
