COVID Update October 7: Why Trump must be gone before vaccine distribution. 1/
Trump’s credibility on COVID-19 couldn’t be lower. No one trusts him any more.
COVID has blanketed our country with millions of cases.
And 1600 Superspreader Avenue has made even his most ardent supporters retract. 2/
I revise that. Some of his relatives trust him.
But they would be smart to keep their distance just to be safe.
And not leave any valuables just lying around until the debt situation is taken care of. 3/
Credibility of course is vital in a pandemic. In fact it ranks right below not killing people. #0for2
Credibility comes from honesty, competence, transparency, and listening. #0for3 4/
Credibility with a vaccine is really important. If you notice Joe Biden isn’t saying anything about a vaccine other than we need one fast that scientists have had time to review.
Trump sings a different tune on vaccines. 5/
First in April he said a vaccine was right around the corner. Which was confusing because COVID-19 was about to end.
Then he promoted “treatments”, none of which he’s taken himself. 6/
He loves the hydroxy but word from Walter Reed was he was yelling: “no hydroxy. I was being sarcastic! No. No hydroxy!” 7/
An aside about sarcasm: we’re not in the mood. Our humor is gone. You’ve overseen a large American genocide. Forgive the 95% of the people who didn’t ingest poison for not finding that funny.
It was odd. 8/
We know the game you love to play by now. Say something outlandish and watch to see if some idiots will actually do it. Then mock them.
It wasn’t funny when you were telling kids to eat paste in grammar school. It’s not funny during a pandemic. 9/
Acting like you’re smarter than the FDA and you’re going to cut off their decision making when we need therapies & a vaccine seems like an unusual move not likely to make people trust you. 10/
It was actually impressive to see how amazing dexy was. You walked a whole flight of stairs for the first time in 25 years. That’s not nothing. 11/
After taking all the FDA’s power away, you’ve been promising a vaccine anyway.
The staff memo undoubtedly shared with you told you 30,000 people needed exposure to the virus and that they needed to go 2 months without symptoms. 12/
No candidate are ready. I know you are pushing Pfizer but they cant control viral exposure.
You have to read the memo. You can’t just go off saying “we’ll have a vaccine by November 1.” It makes you look stupid. And it causes trust to be lost. 13/
Vaccines don’t work without trust. Without rampant use, we still have rampant virus.
And the FDA must monitor and release all data after an EUA and be prepared for tough adjustments. 14/
Imagine a vaccine being rolled out to high risk populations— doctors and nurses. As data comes in on where it’s working, dosage, side effects, severity, degree of immunity that must be reported.
Reported, not spun. And you can’t do that. 15/
Biden is preparing an electronic reporting capability to allow vaccine results & immunity to be properly captured. 16/
Imagine Trump lying about his amazing vaccine, criticizing the FDA as a deep state if they say something he doesn’t like.
With Trump there will be little to trust about a vaccine for too many people. 17/
And that’s a shame. In March some on Twitter gave me a hard time when I tweet this would go down as the largest preventable public health disaster.
That was based on what I was confident of then. We know w whole lot more now. 18/
I now have available on pre-order the documentation & the inside story. It will be a great read. “Funny sad true tragic wise can’t put it down and a page turner.”
Finally, I want to give a shout out to a special person. I don’t know their name so I hope it reaches them. It is this anonymous person that brought a smile to my face. 21/
Yes, in fact, he is right. We have a president who turned “a strain of the common cold” into mass graveyards. That’s how good he is. 22/
COVID Update: Trump’s closing argument: “don’t be afraid of COVID.” 1/
Now that Trump is an expert on COVID— not the book learning kind you get by reading the reports that have been presented to him for months on end— but the kind REAL people get— he has an inescapable conclusion. 2/
There’s a million people worldwide, many of whom, presented exactly the way Trump presented, and who died. 3/
COVID Update October 2: Half the states or more are quickly growing cases and people who wear masks aren’t getting as sick.
And we have some absurd stuff going on. 1/
Let’s start with absurd. Mr. Pillow takes an extract from the oleander plant and says with confidence he won’t get COVID-19.
If you see him, stay away just in case. 2/
People visiting the White House like Father Jenkins get told if they take a quick test, they can sit elbow to elbow with others in a Rose Garden ceremony. He did.
Then went back to Notre Dame with a new gift he brought to the campus. COVID. 3/
COVID Update: What to expect in October with COVID.
I do these every month. Like everyone on Twitter, I’m always right or the facts are wrong— one or the other. 1/
It is been easy in retrospect to see May and September as months when we’ve let our guards down.
We get past a rough period and people assume it’s over. It’s not over. 2/
Roughly 9% of the country has been infected. That means they have some immunity. In all likelihood it is not complete & we don’t know how long it lasts. 3/
3. I wouldn’t let that guy in my house. I’d call the cops if he was in my neighborhood. And if he started insulting someone’s family in a bar in any local class bar, they’d have to intervene.
COVID Update September 26: The highway day of new cases in over a month.
But the president is not talking about that. 1/
With 200,000 lives lost, it would be great to say the worst is behind us. All I can say is the worst is still in charge. 2/
A new study shows 9% of Americans have been infected with COVID. Despite the fact the Rand Paul believes otherwise, we are no where close to herd immunity. 3/
