I really do appreciate folks who tell me that we must forever settle for half-ass deals that will still never make it, just to allow "our side" to score political brownie points....while the majority of people are left to starve, suffer, and even die.
Some of y'allz are so dense that you don't understand that even if Pelosi accepts the Mnuchun/Trumpster deal, McConnell still won't introduce it to the Senate, and it won't even get enough votes to avoid a filibuster even if he did allow it to reach the Senate floor.
The GOTP Senate has already established that they will oppose without delay ANY stimulus payment, ANY UI payment above $300 without depressing conditions, and ANY bill not including their precious business liability shield or other right-wing poison pills.
If they found the HEALS Act, written by Turtle himself, to be too "left-wing" because it contained $1T, how in the Hell would you think they would sign off on $1.6T??
Especially since the only offer they would accept was the "skinny bill" of $300 BILLION, with NO stim checks?
And this thought that a deal would split the GOTP Senate??
Yeah, right....like Kavanaugh's nomination, overturning the ACA, and Trumpster's recent acts have so split them up?
Naaaah....they are more unified and right-wing than ever.
Trumpster doesn't control the GOTP.
The Tea Party/Alt-Right controls him.
He seems stronger when his goals dovetail with theirs. (As in packing the SCOTUS with fascist wingnuts like Barrett and Kavanaugh.)
But in this
But, in this case, in his COVID Cocktail induced frenzy and his desire to keep the POTUS election close enough to steal, he's desperately attempting to play both sides of the field, in order to play the "right-wing populist" card. That doesn't fly with the Reaganite Right.
Need I have to remind you that before Mark Meadows became Trumpster's CoS, he was the point man for the House TeaWacks, pushing bullshit like "Cut, Cap, and Balance" as the cure for "too much Big Guviment giving the poors too many handouts"??
And also, have y'allz forgotten about ex-WSJ editorialist Larry Kudlow, and ancap "libertarian" Stephen Moore, and "Supply-Side Curve" guru Art Laffer....all of whom historically rep the Hard Right sectors of the 1%?
Not exactly populists for the people, right?
What people are missing is that Trumpster's antics are diverting attention from the real consolidation of the traditional Hard Right, and the total eclipse of the "moderates" to favor the "movement conservatives" and their total takeover.
They are locked in on strong-arming Barrett through, because they have seen that even Gorsuch and Kavanaugh are capable of leaving the Scalia-Thomas-Alito Far Right mindhive when precedent allows. In that, they have Trumpster by his balls.
And, they are rightfully fearful that the combination of the COVID ravaging through their ranks and Pelosi-Schumer's tactic of drawing out stim negotiations to run the clock out before the elections, will deny them this "final" victory.
This is what induced Turtle to call Trumpster and get him to initially nuke stim negotiations, only for the latter to shift course when Wall Street nearly choked.
So, now, Trumpster has two choices:
1) He uses the power of executive order to issue the stim checks and UI on his own. That may save him from complete disaster with the people, but it would really piss off his "movement conservative" and deficit hawk wings.
Or....he simply goes back to washing his hands of it all, unites with the Senate GOTP, and kills all thought of stimulus for the year....blaming Pelosi and the Democrats for lack of good faith negotiations.
In other words, it really doesn't matter whether or not Pelosi drops down and accepts a deal that has not a snowball's chance in Hell of getting past McConnell. This was wired in since even March.
The entire stimulus package stunt was simply a Kabuki theatre scam for both ends of the elite to dangle and then snatch away pandemic relief for the masses, so that they could get the 1% pork & loot the public fisc for their corporate and wealthy donors.
That's all it ever was.
If Democrats were actually serious about real stimulus relief, they'd have made the $600/wk FPUC as permanent as the PPP, and incorporated recurring $2K/month checks into the CARES Act. But, that went against Paygo Pelosi's principles and would have boosted the Left, so....NOPE.
"But they did pass the HEROES Act in the House last May, didn't they? Shouldn't the real blame fall on McConnell for blocking it from reaching the Senate?"
Yeah, that is indisputably true.
But, that was just as true in May as it was in August, in September, and today.
What should be disturbing to everyone is this: Why didn't the Democrats make a full-court press effort to push all the good stuff in that bill (stim checks, hazard pay, full UI)?
Other than boilerplate tweets and Pelosi's chants of "Conquer the virus!!!", nothing from the Dem leadership on pushing the HEROES Act....as if the public relief was secondary to the SALT cap, the state/local government pork, and getting their lobbyist orgs into the PPP trough.
Now, there was on the table an actual alternative program that would have been far more effective and direct, and had been proven to work in other countries. You know.... recurring checks, payroll protection, cancelling rents and debts...that stuff.
Naaah....that's SOCIALIZMM!!
You see, folks, giving direct aid to average people to effectively fight this pandemic and this new Great Depression is not quite in sync with selling your party out to corporate/wealthy interests and winning over Never Trump neoconservatives.
But, the Dems have to at least fake being an opposition party rather than show their true form as replacing Trumpster with a more mature conservative, not to mention cleaning up and disinfecting the barn from Trumpster's frequent diarrhea droppings.
This is exactly why they needed to first break Bernie Sanders, and then reduce him to being the ultimate sheepdog for getting progressives to swallow hard and vote for right-wingers like Biden and Copmala. Same as what happened with Jesse Jackson in the 1980's.
One can see the irony of Sanders still pushing his core agenda that motivated people to him....but then simply pissing it all away by nuking his movement in favor of full deference to Biden-Harris.
Yeah, I know, gotta get Trumpster outta there, but what replaces him matters.
Sorry, but you will pardon me if I'm not ready for another political round like we got with Obama in 2009-2010. That's what got us the Tea Party and Trumpster to begin with. And, will get us to full Tom Cotton neo-Confederate fascism in 2024.
I said it before, & I'll say it until the day I get off this app.
If you want anywhere close to actual real change that isn't locked to fascism or corporate elitism, there's only one path to follow.
Go Indy Left for egalitarian socialism, or we perish. Full. Stop.
Is there any information for transportation for those wishing to evacuate but who don't have the wherewithal or funds to do so?
I'm looking out not only for potential evacuees in SWLA, but also in the Lafayette/Opelousas/Eunice/Crowley area where hurricane-force wind gusts may occur.
Apparently there is no plan by the locals to provide transportation for those not able to evac on their own...or is there?
Most parishes under the gun do have either mandatory or voluntary evacuations, but the latter are only helpful for those with their own transportation. Those who don't have such are out of luck, especially since there will be NO local shelters open due to the COVID pandemic.
OK...it's been a good while since I've done a good tweetstorm, but since it now appears that the #HEROESAct will soon be passed as the second stimulus package, it's time to talk about the #HazardPay section and how it may affect those of us #EssentialWorkers.
1/many
As far as publicity is concerned, #HazardPay has been the stepsister in the basement, at least compared to the rollicking debates over the stim checks and the $600/week fed UI extension.
But, it actually may be the most impacting for #essentialworkers down the line.
2/
Until recently, it seems that not even the parties in DC now negotiating and fighting over the details of the stim package have given #HazardPay its due analysis. Nor has the media.
3/
Folks, I gotta do a complete breakdown of the proposal that House Financial Services Committee Chairwoman @RepMaxineWaters issued yesterday. It is THAT damn good.
Auntie Maxine sees the Yangbangers #1KBro and ups it bigly. As in "Try *AT LEAST* #2KForAdults + #1KPerChild, beyayaytches!!" A MONTH. For the duration of the crisis.
That's more like it.
@RepMaxineWaters If that looks familiar to y'allz....yup, that's pretty much the same proposal @BernieSanders made on Tuesday.
So...unless I'm wrong, here's my vision of the timeline of the whole Sanders-Warren kerfluffle.
This is going to take a bit of a while, folks, so follow me here.
1) Lizzary and Bernie have their private meeting in December 2018, where the question of whether a woman can beat Trumpster is raised.
2) At the end of that month, Lizzary officially puts her name in the hat for the Democratic nomination for POTUS.
3) Around late January or early Feburary of the following year, Lizzary has an "off the record" convo with a room filled with journalists, where she first gives her (mis)interpretation of that meeting with Sanders, saying that he said a woman couldn't win.
@BernieSanders@GabbyQuinteros How did I get to the point of finally pulling the trigger for the senior Senator from Vermont?
Two years of progress by him, and one night of being pushed over the cliff by his detractors.
An explanation follows.
@BernieSanders@GabbyQuinteros For the past 3 years, I've been more of an understanding critic of Senator Sanders from the Indy Left. There were things that I liked from him, like his economic populism and his legacy of being a social progressive...
Now, allow me to preface this with the caveat that I bear no ill will towards Mia Khalifa for her personal decision to walk away from porn. Time and people do change.
Having said that....this is a bad take.
Let's remember that Ms. Khalifa originally made her porn profits and noteriety using the early iternerations of YouTube and Pornhub as free upselling for her paid sites. That's not exactly the prototype of "the porn industry".
Even more than that, both YT and Pornhub tend to attract the more.....shall we say.....visceral type of "porn fan" who is the most aggressive towards women who flash their boobs and booty on free apps, but don't want to actually pay them for the effort.
