@MOH_Kenya Dr.Mercy Mwangangi. Madam I don't have to be a Med Dr, or Virologist to agree or disagree with your ''Kwata Kawaya'' declaration in Othaya. But lets face the facts here...By looking at our Nonpharmaceutical Interventions at an indepth... Thread. kenyans.co.ke/news/58139-cas…
Nonpharmaceutical interventions are actions we are to take
to help slow the spread of Pandemic or reduce the adverse impact of the public health emergency it is. This capability focuses on implementing interventions in response to the needs of threat, vis the Pandemic in general.
Our Nonpharmaceutical interventions include
• Isolation
• Quarantine
• Restrictions on movement & travel advisories or
warnings
• Social distancing
• External decontamination
• Hygiene
• Precautionary protective behaviors
This capability consists of the ability to perform the functions such as-:
• Engaging partners & identifying factors that impact them
• Determining interventions.
• Implementing interventions.
• Monitoring interventions.
So without a proper M&E are you not lying to Kenyans?
I am categorically claiming you could be lying because, there are zero updates, let alone @MOH_Kenya strategic alignments in efforts. Particularly because our National Standards on Pandemics are non-existent. As such we lack current public health priorities & strategies.
We lack a National trickling down to grass root, focus on collaboration, especially expansion of suggested partnerships for implementing any such interventions. The police brutality earlier meted on people in Eastleigh, Likoni & Old Town Msa, cannot be called so either.
The current political nonsense for example, where the who is who keep throwing caution out of the window. Clearly highlights poor management of mass gatherings based on an all-hazards scenarios. How then will we not have a 2nd wave surge ? Simple common sense will do here Doc.
When it comes to public health testing, thus our ability to implement, perform methods to detect, characterize & confirm pandemic spread. Which includes the ability to report timely data, provide investigative support, address actual or potential exposures, where are we ?
As for public health surveillance & epidemiological investigations which means our ability to create, maintain,
support, strengthen routine surveillance, detection systems & epidemiological investigation processes. Which includes the ability to expand these systems & processes ?
How then will we not have a 2nd wave & surge when we cannot emphasizes basics such as syndromic surveillance & or simple data collection to generally improve situational awareness. Or responsiveness to hazardous & disease outbreak complexities ?
To me a medical surge response to, is the ability to provide adequate medical evaluation & care during, especially after being caught pants down by the Pandemic, where events as much as you are afraid to say may exceed the limits of our Mickey Mouse medical infrastructure.
This in essence encompasses the ability of our health care system to endure Covid-19 hazard impact, maintain or rapidly recover operations that were compromised, & support the delivery of medical care & associated public health services.
In which it also includes & is not limited to disease surveillance, epidemiological inquiry, laboratory diagnostic services, & environmental health assessments. That said, How true ways your ''Kwata Kawaya'' declaration in Othaya, Dr.Mwangangi ?
@StateHouseKenya Mr. President.
With our hazards history, impacts of which continue to affect, many especially the poor. Having a limping @InteriorKE as lead State Dept & populating it with a Hitler for CS & Mussolini for PS to address disasters is a crime against humanity, Sir!
We can blame it on all manner of causative factors & excuses. But the bottom line is, @InteriorKE as a State Dept in charge of Disaster Mgmt is a failure the leadership therein insensitive to boot & guilty of ineptitude where the subject matter is concerned.
@InteriorKE continues to fail miserably especially in the role of providing support & technical assistance to both National & County Govts jurisdictions. Something the @NDOCKenya used to try doing before, its mandate was usurped by the GSU Hqs based wannabes. the police run NDMA.
Environmental emergencies, including floods, fires, oil spills, chemical spills, acts of terrorism, & others, threaten the lives & health of the public, as well as those who respond. With our dilapidated response capability, where does this leave Nairobi as a Capital? @ajfactual52
Responders are normally the first on the scene of an emergency, & range from police, fire, emergency health personnel, to volunteers. As they work to bring the emergency under control, save lives& property, often being exposed to potentially harmful conditions & contaminants.
Hybrid Gov'nance refers to situations where state & non-state actors collectively provide key services. It is often the norm rather than exception for Disaster Mgmt, particularly in cases like ours, where State is weak, often unable & or unwilling to provide essential services.
It is time, risks are addressed by all, be it the State & non-state entities, from citizens, CBO's, NGO's to customary Authorities. Their importance, castigates the Govt joke of attempting to bring such under the remit of State, as it creates disruption rather than reduce risk.
Fireman training is an important component of fire rescue & safety. You can claim Nrb's Firefighters are trained. Yes, they are. However, it is what is called OJT or On the Job Training.
Based on the Gabbage In Gabbage Out-GIGO principle, what does that say of their acumen ?
With the Nrb OJT do they learn new skills & techniques to make their jobs safer. Or train to enable them respond more efficiently, reducing the property damage & know what do do in situations where life & fire damages could be great. Or just how to run with a hose ? @SimbaTirima
From a Disaster Mgmt perspective, flooding is not a problem, the problem is we the docile people. A Govt that is indifferent, myopic & our stupid leadership. Haven't we known the flood consequences, for 56 years & failed to make decisions on undertaking proper flood response?
@FredMatiangi “The continued failures by our emergency prep'dness apparatus at every level of Govt, to account for the well-being of certain communities prior to, during, & in the wake of disasters, on your watch is unacceptable & must be addressed.” Thread...
To be successful, @InteriorKE must work on proper policies, plan for & address Disaster Risk Mgmt with the respect it duly deserves. It's comprehensive approach is critical in redressing Kenya's pathetic unpreparedness reality. But is that possible with a sadist in office?
The fact that Kenya is currently facing an COVID-19 quagmire like many other Countries globally doesn't mean, other disasters are on a leave of absence. If anything it is during the COVID-19 period, that we must triple our prep'dness, prevention, resilience& response Efforts.
