Prosecutors now say it was an attempted robbery and not sexual harassment that preceded the dragging murder of this young woman. The original arrest warrant charged the men with sexual harassment. I believe they dropped that when they saw the public outcry. #Egypt
I believe they dropped mention of sexual harassment because of the public outcry - especially now, a time when an unprecedented number of women (not just activists) are exposing sex crimes and the regime has been blaming and arresting victims and witnesses.

So students of the #Egyptian Police Academy can parade shirtless for Sisi but the regime arrests women - fully dressed - for selfies and videos on TikTok? h/t @almudenariverob
The more clothes #Egyptian men remove, the more they are celebrated for virility - from the police academy to celebrities
#Egyptian women are criminalized, slut-shamed & punished in the name of “morality” - whether they are in “revealing” clothes or hijab. Actress Rania Youssef faced jail in 2019, for "inciting debauchery" over a dress bbc.in/2D2JY32
FEMINIST GIANT Newsletter roundups are compiled and written by five interns who bring you global and intersectional news of feminist resistance. I’m thrilled to have younger feminists on board.
I launched FEMINIST GIANT Newsletter because I wanted to be independent and to own my writing.
I commissioned independent artist @sxgx to create a logo for FEMINIST GIANT and look what she made - I am thrilled!
Coming soon FEMINIST GIANT Twitter account complete with header!
Check out Sheyam Ghieth on Instagram where she posts her wonderful queer graphic designs such as this one today that says “Non-binary” in Arabic غير ثنائي

Ever since I shaved off my hair, when I’m outside now and wearing a mask, I can tell several people are confused and trying to figure out my gender.
I didn’t enjoy that when I was younger and had very short hair. Now I genuinely do enjoy their confusion.
Two women at a park today double taked in puzzlement and it was just fine for me.
That was one of the reasons I shaved it all off - I wanted to go back to the “Are you a boy or a girl?” days and handle it with the power I didn’t have then. patreon.com/posts/39707653
I said yesterday and I say again and again, “originalists” treat the US Constitution the way people of faith treat their holy books - Bible, Quran, etc and insist you cannot change a word.
And they refuse to brook that society today is not the society for which the edicts were once applicable hundreds of years ago because, they say, those holy books and the US Constitution are for all times.
People of faith will tell you that you can’t change a word because they believe their books are the literal word of God.
Are “originalists” saying that the white men who wrote the US Constitution are gods?
Mariam M, an #Egyptian woman in her early 30s, was killed in #Cairo after men who had been sexually harassing her from inside their car as she was leaving work dragged her body through the streets and dumped her broken, bloodied body and escaped. albawabhnews.com/4160764?fbclid…
When the State does this to your body - Dec 2011, Tahrir Squares - the Street will also drag your body through the streets and dump it, broken and bloodied. #Egypt
When the State punishes rape victims and not rapists, when the State itself is a rapist, predatory and patriarchal, it gives a greenlight that women’s bodies can be abused and broken by all.
Thank you all who have been pointing out to @nytopinion that👇🏽is fucked up. @WajahatAli I didn’t tag you earlier because I too was a contributing oped writer for NYT (2014-18) and know that writers don’t write headlines. But writers can say “That’s identical to Mona’s, change it”
