#octobit day 15: #recipe #finished, from #octobit2020. #mewtsukki makes #brigadeiro! #pixelart #ドット絵
PS: This is the only recipe she knows... (Repost to fix)
I've made a small correction (forgot to add the step numbers). I'll use this opportunity to talk about this sweet!
Brigadeiro is literally "brigadier", a military rank. It is so named after the title of the candidate for presidency at that time, Eduardo Gomes, who was going to succeed Getúlio Vargas's rule in 1954.
He was popular among the women for his good looks, and he got a lot of financial support from them in his political campaign. One such way to get money was selling cakes in order to gather funds. It's worthy to note that this was the first time women could vote in Brazil!
However, due to the impact of the WWII, product prices were high, flour included. This made it impossible for these women to bake cakes. Soon they faced a logistics problem. How are they going to sell cakes without any flour?
Fortunately, the end of WWII saw a surge of new products in the shelves (reallocation of army rations to the everyday consumer market). One such item was the condensed milk, which was originally intended to be a long shelf life alternative for milk.
The Brazilian housewives decided to improvise a recipe by replacing flour with condensed milk, creating a small, round bonbon. They named it "brigadeiro" to honor Eduardo Gomes, and marketed it as "the Brigadier's favorite sweet"!
Despite all efforts, Eduardo Gomes lost to Eurico Gaspar Dutra, his rival, who governed Brazil from 1946 to 1951. And this is the history of brigadeiro: women representation, creativity and WWII's effects on the Brazilian society gave rise to what possibly is the most BR sweet.

About the Lizard Wizard I posted awhile ago: my design process was to sketch and iterate on paper first, then do the lineart, scan and make the pixelart. This approach allows me to better feel the line flow and easily discard elements that don't fit. #pixelart #ドット絵 ImageImageImage
The design started out as a simple pun (lizard wizard), but I tried to put as many slithering elements in the design. The ouroboros goldpiece on the hat, the chameleon-like look, the bright membrane of maned lizards and the fire from salamanders were all implemented in the art.
The colors were picked on the fly, taking care on the hues to make it optimized and striking. This brings unity to the piece and I felt that the AA & contrast were appropriate. I am proud of the final piece!

Finally they have enforced quarantine in my city. Use this extra time to do things you have neglected so far, like cleaning your keyboard! Image
Before you start cleaning your keyboard, take a picture of it. Thus way you will know where to fit each key when you reassemble it! ⌨️
As you can see, these q-tips are completely dirty, and all I did was to rub them on the lanes between the keys. You don't notice it, but your skin cells and hair falls into it, building a crust. I have put a little dish soap in the water to help remove it. Image

Tonight's adventure: Gors's sini gang

For those who don't know, I'm a person who enjoys cooking. I'm always trying different recipes, so that I can expand my horizons in culinary and practice my cooking skills.
My amazing friend @Kitisplode suggested me a dish from the Phillipines, the "sini gang". It is basically a soup with an unlikely ingredient: tamarind. It's a sour fruit that is mostly made into juice in Brazil, so the idea of cooking a savory dish with it seemed intriguing to me.

A honest view on "Metroidvania"

I've seen a Kotaku article criticizing the aforementioned term, and the subsequent people defending its usage. In one side, the article says that the term is not elegant, and the defenders saying that this term has been circulating for a while.
Going back to 1993, when Doom was released, the subsequent games that mimicked part of its design were all bundled together as "doom clones". This went on until 1997-ish, when the term "First Person Shooter" took the reins, and perdured to this day. Image
The disadvantage of using a title name to name an entire genre or subgenre is that it requires the person to know about said titles, which can get in the way of the communication. Of course, this is not a problem between seasoned gamers, but it could be intimidating to newcomers.
