We have politics to thank for our horrible science literacy in this country due to DEFUNDING education over and over again.
We have politics to thank for stopping scientists from do life saving research through stem cells.
Politics is hurting science...
...Now we have a large portion of the population who think scientists are lying to them because a willfully ignorant, racist, sexist, bigoted, narcissist is telling them what to believe consistently thru lying and gaslighting our people.
Science is pushing back saying NO MORE!
I am SICK of being abused by ignorant people online and who live in my town bc they believe everything a incompetent, sick man says who would burn this country to the ground if he didn’t get his way.
I am SICK of being told I’m indoctrinating people bc I help them learn science
I can’t even express my political views on my street for fear of the gun toting Trump supporters who live here and flip me off for wearing a mask...the same ones who got angry because I wanted to give them free masks.
I’m a scientist and I’M DONE w/ “politics isn’t polite” trash
Politics DIRECTLY AFFECTS us scientists, science educators, and science communicators not only in literally our work...but also our personal lives and our outreach.
I can’t even do effective science outreach that I would like to do bc of Trump. He’s killing us.
So YES...scientists are forced to speak up now BECAUSE Trump is THAT BAD!!!
We could manage most of this but it’s out of hand now.
Don’t tell us to “stay in our lane” when EVERYTHING you do and use is because we gave you that knowledge.
Listen to us FOR ONCE.

I take anti anxiety meds as my panic attacks are crippling. I can’t take birth control because they fuel depression in me. I can’t function while on certain meds and can’t function without certain meds.
Hormone therapy is essential for mental health for many.
I’ve had anxiety my entire life. It’s not lazy to recognize an imbalance in body chemistry.
When I taught high school science, I had students write an essay (after they had learned about Katherine Johnson) on how different the world would be if we had included all races and genders in science from the beginning...(Thread)
An African American male student wrote the essay basically stating that 1. it wouldn't be much different because women have no place outside of the home.
2. There are only 2 genders. Women are supposed to serve men.
3. God wants it this way.
He completely disregarded the...
..fact he would have be shunned as well. He didn't address this. He focused his entire essay on women staying at home.
It didn't matter that he had be exposed to do many stories of marginalized people in science who discovered amazing things.
