THREAD: After the UAE & Bahrain deals, normalization between #Sudan’s military rulers & Israel’s apartheid government is the latest agreement between authoritarian forces that’s being misportrayed as a “historic peace deal” between nations. Here is what you need to know about it:
Sudan’s military-led transitional government (set to keep power from the civilian government until at least 2022) is a client of regional authoritarian governments, receiving billions in funding from the Saudi & UAE regimes. Their decisions do not represent the Sudanese people.
Back in August, when US Sec of State Mike Pompeo first pressured Sudan to normalize with Israel, Sudan’s civilian Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok responded by saying Sudan’s military-led transitional government had “no mandate” to make such a decision.
washingtonpost.com/world/middle_e…
Yet, this Sudan-Israel deal was rammed through just before the US election, under US pressure and without the support of the Sudanese people, as an electoral favor for Donald Trump, who is a friend to this alliance of oppressive regimes, to tout sham foreign policy "successes."
Contrary to normalizing governments’ claims, these deals do not hinder Israel’s theft of Palestinian land, they provide cover for it, as is evident by new Israeli plans for 4,000+ illegal settlement units on stolen Palestinian land.

None of these agreements address Israel’s racist & oppressive rule over Palestinians, which imposes lethal brutality, cruelty & occupation on the indigenous Palestinian people. The region won’t see true peace until we end this injustice.

The Israeli Knesset (Parliament) rejected a bill to grant “equal and legal protection for all citizens… both Arabs and Jews.” middleeastmonitor.com/20200918-kness…
The bill was introduced on Friday by Yousef Jabareen, on behalf of the Arab Joint List, seeking equality for all citizens. The bill was rejected by a majority of both the ruling party and the opposition parties. middleeastmonitor.com/20200918-kness…
The Knesset’s rejection of equality is the latest act of racism against Palestinians in Israel. This comes just 2 years after Israel entrenched apartheid by passing the Jewish nation-state law, which says the right to self-determination in Israel is “unique to the Jewish people.”

Because #FacebookCensorsPalestine, thousands of activists are calling on Facebook’s @OversightBoard to #DropEmiPalmor and stop the suppression of Palestine and Palestinian voices:
In 2016, a Facebook delegation met Israeli Minister Ayelet Shaked and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan—who spearheads the fight against the BDS movement—with the aim of improving “cooperation against incitement.”

What makes this extra special is that Shaked herself is an inciter to violence against Palestinians.

UAE minister echoes claims that the agreement will bring peace. Here's a reality check: The deal will do nothing to achieve Palestinian freedom. Instead it will pave the way for Israeli spy tech to be sold in greater numbers to the UAE. #AbrahamAccords theintercept.com/2016/10/17/how…
The UAE minister claimed that Trump "stopped" Israeli annexation of the West Bank. That's a lie. Israel has de facto annexed the West Bank. 300,000+ Israeli settlers live in the West Bank, surrounded by Israeli checkpoints and soldiers. That's annexation. #AbrahamAccords

Israeli, American and Emirati officials gathered at the White House today to celebrate the UAE normalizing ties with Israel. But this agreement between authoritarian regimes does nothing to address Israel's ongoing policy of land theft and oppression in Palestine:
These deals bring out into the open what already went on behind closed doors. For years Israel has sold Gulf Arab states invasive surveillance technology to spy on political dissenters. haaretz.com/middle-east-ne…
This is a deal that cements a dangerous political alliance among authoritarian states and increases the chances for a disastrous escalation with Iran.

BREAKING: @BettyMcCollum04 introduced a bill mandating US non-recognition of any Israeli annexation and barring US funds from being used by Israel to annex Palestinian land. Image
Co-sponsors on this bill are: @RashidaTlaib, @AOC, @MarkPocan, @AyannaPressley, @IlhanMN and @RepAndreCarson.
The “Israeli Annexation Non-Recognition Act” would put Congress on record as saying that Israeli land theft is illegal and a “prohibited act of aggression” under international law.
