Second THREAD documenting violent events relating to #EndSARS & #EndSWAT protests from Oct 19th –26th.

The majority of calls to #EndPoliceBrutalityinNigeria have been peaceful.

This thread helps ensure incidents where violence has ensued are not swept under the rug.

N.B. Like last week, I can’t give a full picture of each event. Events not listed or deeply covered I’m still investigating. I offer what info I can.

19th Oct – Asokoro, FCT Abuja

At #AbujaProtests, #EndSARS protestors gathered outside Nigerian Police Headquarters.

Singing, they turn and flee when gunfire sounds in the air.

19th Oct – Asokoro, FCT Abuja

Around the corner, a clip of men armed with melee weapons mounting a distinctive red vehicle.

This was less than 500m from Police HQ in Asokoro from here: 9.0519998,7.5109454.

And that vehicle carrying those men was spotted again that day…

19th Oct – Apo Roundabout, FCT Abuja

It was sighted again six minutes’ drive South of that previous location, just here: google.com/maps/place/9%C…

This is a minute away from Apo Roundabout where ‘thugs’ attacked #AbujaProtests there.

19th Oct – Kabusa Junction, FCT Abuja

Slightly more than two miles to the South, cars were set alight by so-called ‘thugs’ exactly here: 8.972880, 7.496013.

Two people were also reported killed in these conflicts.

19th Oct – Benin City, Edo

In midst of #beninprotests, a prison break erupted in Benin City.

Cameraperson here: 6.3295172,5.6235196, shows Benin Prison front gates as prisoners run out.

Reports were so-called ‘thugs’ (not attached to #EndSARS protest), aided the break.

Hand-to-hand street battles ensued.

Some reports claim they were #EndSARS protestors against ProSARS activists.

19th Oct – Ketu, Lagos

Ketu in Lagos saw ‘thugs’ throwing missiles attacking one another in large street battles.

It followed a #KetuProtest to #EndSARS at Ketu Bus Stop, which some people reported hijacked.

A visible missile broke the pottery at: 6.598228, 3.387206.

That large group, which emerged from Demurin Street armed with melee and missile weapons, pushed North East.

Clip captures mass charge by this group at: 6.598388, 3.386819.

At this point they were 80m from the front gates of Ketu Police Station.

20th Oct – Munshin, Lagos

Multiple people were killed amid #mushinprotest, in what started out as protests to #EndSARS.

This footage captured one of the first moments of gunfire.

Shots firing and armed men in uniform on that day here: 6.530355, 3.353440.

Other footage captured that day, shows severely injured people.

Some locals report what started as #EndSARS protests, became totally different throughout the day.

At least two people at #EndSARS protest are hurt in crowd surrounding alleged local politician.

He started firing sporadically after vehicle attacked: 6.648476, 3.306189.

Identity of the driver has not been confirmed.

October 20th. Among the darkest days since #EndSARS/#EndSWAT began.

All the world feels the #LekkiProtest.

I won’t try to cover it in short tweets – it wouldn’t do it justice. But see the clip.

21st Oct – Amukoko, Lagos

Anger followed night of October 20th.

But the perpetrators of that violence the next day weren’t always so clear.

So-called ‘thugs’ set fire to buildings across the city of Lagos.

In Oyingbo, Adekunle the BRT Bus Station was set alight.

Footage was shot from the West pointing toward the East side of the Station. Train tracks are here: 6.4810668, 3.3826973.

Also in Adekunle, uniformed men fire East down Clinic Rd.

Shooter at: 6.491484, 3.382459.

This was after they had driven civilians (some report them as ‘thugs’) away from the junction where Clinic Rd & Herbert Macaulay Rd meet.

A video shot earlier at the same junction shows the unburned tyres soon to be set alight.

Nigeria Port Authority HQ also set alight in #Lagos that day.

TVC, The Nation Newspaper & Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge toll plaza all sustained fire damage.

21st Oct – Okitipupa, Ondo

Way across the country, Okitipupa Police Station was also attacked and burnt.

Police transport vehicle set alight was at exactly: 6.509460, 4.777533.

21st Oct – Oyigbo, Rivers

#Oyigbo witnessed conflict with police, soldiers and civilians killed throughout the week.

Reports say #EndSARS protests were hijacked by mobs.

21st Oct – Asaba, Delta

A 48-hour curfew was imposed on Asaba earlier in the week after ‘thugs’ reportedly took over from #AsabaProtests.

Footage shows buildings around Koka Junction ablaze.

Curfew since relaxed.

President Buhari addressed Nigeria on Thursday.

He called on ‘youths’ to stop protesting in the street.

He said protestors’ voices have been heard loud and clear.
No mention of Lekki Toll Gate.

On Sunday the Inspector General of Police in Nigeria, Mohammed Adamu, mobilised all the resources the police have to stop the violence that has occurred.

At #SURULEREPROTEST, #EndSARS protestors gathered at West entrance to Iyun Rd: 6.502924, 3.363842.

Armed police officers, positioned 20m from Anti-Kidnapping Unit base, stood opposite them.

Video captures the seconds before gunfire resonated.
