Personal suggestion for early voting in NC: busiest days likely Oct 15 and Oct 26-31, so try Oct 16-25 ! Historically least crowded weekday hours likely 8 am-10 am and 6 pm - 7:30 pm. Weekday hours in 450+ of 464 sites are 8am-7:30pm (a few small counties have less hours) /2
A few exceptions: Ocracoke in Hyde County and 3 early voting sites in Beaufort County do not open until Oct 22 or later. /3 #ncpol
Quick look at #ncsbe Sunday absentee ballot request summary file, (changes cover county processing Friday and Saturday): statewide 370,693 +37,140 (an 11% jump). Wake 71,144 +7,517. Orange 14,648 +1,992. Mecklenburg. 53,404 +6,258. #ncpol (2016 FINAL request total about 231,000)
In another metric, 9.2% of all Wake County voters and 13.2% of Orange County voters have already requested an absentee ballot. Statewide it’s 5.2%. All THREE of those numbers are historically very large. /2 #ncpol
North Carolina begins to send out mail ballots on September 4. (10 days before any other state) It looks likely to be between 400,000 and 500,000 sent out on day one of mail-out. /3 #ncpol
This is a serious tweet on Silent Sam. If the law allows it to be relocated within the jurisdiction, and the jurisdiction here is the UNC-CH campus, why can’t the campus be expanded ?(continued) /1
The NCSU campus was expanded in the 1980s as the Council of State REALLOCATED part of DHHS Dix property to NCSU on recommendation of Governor Hunt. It’s now part of NCSU campus. /2
There are already parts of @unc Campus not contiguous — Horace Williams Airport and Mason Farm /Finley Golf Course /3
Proposed #ncga House Committee Substitute for SB325 (unrelated to the earlier version) ncleg.net/documentsites/… makes major #ncpol early voting changes. Bill is calendared for House Rules for 10 am. Drops early voting to 10 days from 17. More ..... /1
This amends the statute that was voided by federal court making it harder to compare with what it would have been this year and 2020 without this bill. More ..... /2 #ncpol
Early voting will be 10 days rather than 17 but final Saturday eliminated and starts on a Wednesday. Thus maximum of one Saturday and one Sunday versus three Saturdays and two Sundays under current law. /3 #ncpol
