#Breaking a Canadian soldier has died after being shot during a live fire training exercise in CFB Wainwright. #CAF
Have been on a level 5 live fire range at Wainwright a few times... my heart goes out to his family. LAV rollovers not uncommon but a soldier being shot during live fire training is much more unusual.
This is a 3VP (Third Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry - 3 PPCLI) exercise but the soldier killed was a reservist attached to the Patricias from the Royal Westminster Regiment.
A former senior Army officer reminds me I have done level 6 and 7 ranges too... they are complex environments that mimic real events to train soldiers and they have real bullets.
From @DMike_Day says the only thing riskier than complex live fire training with real bullets is not doing it. The training prepares soldiers for the reality of war, however it is inherently with risks.

A few thoughts on live fire training & training deaths... informed by discussions with troops. Troops believe live fire is vital training to be able to survive in a war zone. Real bullets mean a very different experience. It is dangerous, but they believe the risk is justified
We don't know what happened in the incident that killed Corporal Choi, but I have seen how training deaths affect troops. It's absolutely heart wrenching. While everyone knows training is a risk, the mental space is very different on exercise than overseas.
The soldiers in Corporal Choi's Regiment have suffered a terrible shock and the grief is tinged with how did this happen. For the troops there when he was shot - incredible trauma. There is always a great deal of guilt that goes along with training deaths too.

Today the Canadian Armed Forces released their "comprehensive misconduct response strategy." This is part of their ongoing attempt to stop sexual misconduct in the military following the Deschamps report. I sat down with VCDS LGen Mike Rouleau on it over the phone today #CAF
Report will follow shortly with @amandacconn. Asked about what the new report will achieve that the old approach didn't, the metrics on sexual misconduct have shown the CAF having major challenges in making change, how does this address that?
Asked about the role of the military justice system and whether it has sufficiently changed its approach to sexual assault. Was problem area for the CAF and why the CDS introduced admin discharge as punishment - concern about inability to get change from military justice system

Singh is asked precisely what his words mean - how will be be voting today?
Singh says "we will be voting for Canadians"
Waiting for follow up on so does that mean you're voting against the Oppo motion or abstaining
Singh keeps repeating they won't give the PM an election but refuses to say if that means abstaining from voting or voting against Oppo day motion "we are looking at options"
"We will be voting against an election" but Singh still refuses to clarify if this means voting against oppo motion or abstaining. A little weird he won't just say.

NDP leader @theJagmeetSingh is giving a press conference now. Singh says PM wants an election and that shows he is disconnected from people "New Democrats will not give the PM the election he is looking for. We will not give him an excuse or a cover." #cdnpoli
Unclear what that means exactly for the vote but doesn't sound like NDP is leaning toward supporting oppo day motion.

Reading some of the court docs on the alleged militia conspiracy to kidnap the Governor of Michigan. "In early 2020, the FBI became aware through social media that a group of individuals were discussing the violent overthrow of certain government and law-enforcement
