The Dogon people of Africa

"The Dogon are an ethnic group living in the central plateau region of Mali, in West Africa, south of the Niger bend, near the city of Bandiagara and in Burkina Faso. The population numbers between 400,000 and 800,000."

The Dogon are best known for their religious traditions, their mask dances, wooden sculpture and their architecture.

Dogon country is one of Mali's major tourist attractions.

The Dogon astronomical beliefs

"Starting with the French anthropologist Marcel Griaule, several authors have claimed that Dogon traditional religion incorporates ....

.... details about extrasolar astronomical bodies that could not have been discerned from naked-eye observation."
In late 1946, Griaule spent a consecutive thirty-three days in conversations with the Dogon wiseman Ogotemmêli, the source of much of Griaule and Dieterlen's future publications.
"Griaule is remembered for his work with the blind hunter Ogotemmeli and his elaborate exegeses of Dogon myth (including the Nommo) and ritual. His study of #Dogon masks remains one of the fundamental works on the topic."

A number of anthropologists are critical of his work and argue that his claims about #Sirius and his elaborate accounts of cosmic eggs and mystic vibrations do not accurately reflect #Dogon belief.

The #Conservative Case Against Donald Trump

Sir. Roger Scruton

“In Mr. Trump we encounter a politician who uses social media to bypass the realm of ideas entirely, addressing the sentiments of his followers without a filter of educated argument.” #MAGA
"And perhaps the principal reason for doubting Mr. Trump’s conservative credentials is that being a creation of social media, he has lost the sense that there is a civilization out there that stands above his deals and his tweets in a posture of disinterested judgment."
He wrote this before #COVID19.

Orzabal's unimpressed reaction prompted Hughes to convince him to record it, in a calculated effort to garner American chart success.
"According to Orzabal, the final line in the song's chorus, originally written as "Everybody wants to go to war"
