For more than 4 years we have warned you that brexit and leaving the EU simply diminishes us, diminishes our influence in the world. We were told by brexiters that this was wrong, that we had to believe, the brexit would make us more global not less. Thread 1/
Your stupid promises are in tatters. With every decision this Brexit government makes, it isolates the UK further, diminishes its standing in the world further. The press with Murduch at the helm has done the same. 2/
We haven’t quite got leaders who lock children in cages (yet) but the Murdoch press have been investing in the ugly part of people’s nature that makes them frightened of poor wretched souls in boats and persuaded politicians to stand on beaches ranting angrily about foreigners.
The neediest in society have suffered from policy after policy which increases the demand on foodbanks and has increased homelessness whilst the government told you to look away and it was all the fault of Michel Barnier or Eastern European fruit pickers or the SNP or labour. 3/
This Tory brexit government and their paymasters who own the press have done this to the people of the UK. They pulled their wool over your eyes. Their Global Brexit Britain is a sham, a lie. They might have got away with it for a while longer if Trump had won. 4/
They gambled that lies and deceit and hate would win again in the USA, but truth and love and determination won instead and now that leaves the Brexit lie exposed fully - a gash open and nobody can work out how to close it up as our influence bleeds away. /end #BrexitReality

One of the reasons I have been supporting the Biden/Harris campaign is that a Biden win, a Trump defeat, sends a message to the scourge of populists we have seen grab power across the world. #europeforbiden . /thread
We have learned that populists have to lie and cheat to win, that’s the only way they CAN win. We know that from the bus, the secret Facebook ads in the referendum, the neverending Trump lies, the broken promises from the last few years - oven ready deals, fake news tweets . /1
Populist lies work by persuading voters to lie to themselves. “It’s not your fault it’s his fault, the other one, the one that’s different to you.” “Don’t worry blame the other guy and vote for me and I will give you everything you want.” /2
All I will say about the latest labour /corbyn debacle is that it grieves me this has blown up right now when there are extremely important things happening. A gradual power grab by a government trying to move us to authoritarianism by stealth, a pandemic out of control 1/
We are about to find ourselves with no trade agreement with the EU, no FTAs with any really big partners to help mitigate the effects of that and we are heading because of all this for a demolition ball swinging full force into our economy. 2/
With all this and more hanging over our heads, Corbyn decided to display atrocious political judgement yet again and labour is once again being dragged away from doing it’s central current job that we actually pay it for - of being an effective opposition. 3/
Interesting that this Tory MP talks about responsibility and also tackling reasons for child poverty. The Tories have been in power since 2010 /1 #FreeSchoolMeals
Yet the DWPs own figures show a massive increase in child poverty since they came to power
Many are now contemplating WFH long term. I spent a lot of years #workingfromhome but it’s really easy to end up not being able to switch off so here are a couple of things we used to do to try and help with that - thread /1
Try and find a space to work in where you can shut the door at the end of the working day. Having your work paraphernalia visible makes it hard to spend time with family without being distracted. /2
In one house we converted an old larder room off the kitchen to a work space. It was tiny but the main thing is I could shut the door and work stayed in there and it didn’t take over the rest of the house /3
I just watched that famous report by Michael Buerk on Ethiopia from 1984. Sombre, serious and presenting the human tragedy unfolding, it was an unforgettable and amazing piece of journalism which galvanised the world into acts of great generosity and human compassion. /1
And there have been many other historical moments since that our tv news channels have guided us through with equal humanity and total integrity. /2
I find it so desperately sad that some journalists from the BBC and other news channels seem to have forgotten how to present these stories to us with humanity, showing us the way to demonstrate and express our own humanity. /3
