FACT CHECK TIMELINE: As Ontario reaches yet another record high number of new #COVID19 cases, Doug Ford needs to explain why he and his govt have been minimizing the impact of COVID’s second wave on Ontario families, and cutting back on public health measures...

“Doug Ford is gambling with people’s lives, and he’s putting us all at risk of longer, deeper lockdowns later. He’s downplaying the seriousness of the second wave and delaying the investments needed.” - @SaraSinghMPP 6/6 ontariondp.ca/news/fact-chec…

Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Christine Elliott lied when they said their decision to cancel many public health protections was based on expert advice.
A TIMELINE OF LIES brought to you by Doug Ford's Conservative government:
Doug Ford, Nov. 3: “This framework was developed in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Public Health Measures Table, local medical officers of health, and other health system experts.” #FordLied#Covid19#Covid19Ontario
Today, the courts ruled against Doug Ford’s cut to OHIP coverage for Ontarians when they’re travelling.
This makes SEVEN court battles lost by Doug Ford and his PC govt, wasting precious public dollars defending his cutting agenda. #onpoli
There’s a lot to unpack here, first of all, the ‘free market’ would not have the business opportunity to operate COVID-19 tests at a high price if the gov’t was on top of testing – but they’re leaving people behind.
Everyday Ontarians are waiting hours in line to get their COVID-19 test. While the gov’t has been saying for months that “they’re hammering away at testing” but experts disagree: ontariondp.ca/news/fact-chec…
If testing was as easy and accessible as it should be with a public health system, there would not be a market for $400 testing kits for those that can afford it. Demand the gov’t invest in testing now: ontariondp.ca/demand-covid-1…
Ahead of Labour Day and in the midst of a pandemic, we reflect on the rights we have fought for together, and the wins still ahead of us that ensure everyone has what they need to thrive and nobody gets left behind.
The labour movement brought us the 8-hour work day and the weekend so workers can live a balanced life. For those in the gig economy, these work hours don’t always apply.
We are here to fight for stable jobs that everyone can live off of. 2/
We fought for women’s right to work, for anti-discrimination laws, and protections for workers.
We are still fighting for a living minimum wage, to institute a basic income, raising minimum wage and ODSP, and to eliminate gender and racial pay gaps. 3/
The data shows COVID-19 exacerbates existing social and economic differences.
We cannot ignore how government response hurts those already left behind the most.
So many were already feeling left behind before the pandemic hit, and now we are seeing devastating consequences. Ontario deserves better, we all deserve better from those in power.
FACT CHECK: Doug Ford’s tales don’t match the reality
NDP House Leader @BissonGilles released the following after watching Doug Ford and Paul Calandra tell tales in their press conference:
FACT CHECK ▶️ Ford claims he needs unlimited power to make orders behind closed doors because it takes “three weeks” to recall the house. Only 24 hours is required to recall the legislature.
FACT CHECK ▶️ Ford claimed there were bipartisan efforts. The government ended multi-party House meetings months ago and passed sweeping legislation this week without any opportunity for public comment – a move that was opposed by every Opposition MPP.
