The Oil bath has two key parts
-The Abhynaga part , which is the self-massage from head to toe with a suitable herb-infused Ayurvedic oil
1The Snana Part : a bath to wash off the excess oil from the body with a herb bath powder called Snana Choornam or as simple as Shikakai
-Oil bath is not recommended for those who are ill , exhausted , suffering from indigestion and is also prohibited for women during menstruation
- As per Ayurveda, this procedure will be done with medicated oil of various herb
-This was once a custom of every Indian house hold to take oil bath on Saturday and Wednesday
-The oils used were mostly gingelly or coconut oil followed by Shikakai powder Bath
It's almost dying practice of Indian household post the rigorous market of body moisturising lotions and shampoos which does more harm than it's good
