STORYTIME

It was right about now, about 10 days after the '16 election when I finally ventured back onto social media. It had been too hard until then. My anxiety and worry were off the charts.

What I found quite literally changed my life. // a #gratitude thread
A friend of mine wrote a post about a new group she found, called the Every Day Project, who was posting "one action a day to protect against our 45th president."

I signed up for their email and gave it a try. (This was pre-Indivisible.)
Boom. I felt SO GOOD after taking that one tiny action, and I was HOOKED.

I wanted more.
I wasn't plugged in to any grassroots groups and had no idea where to look.

But I wasn't shy, so I sent a few messages to people that seemed to be more plugged in, and I started to learn.
As I learned things, I posted them on Twitter, where I soon learned there was a huge appetite for information. I also started to find other people who were posting helpful resources.

One of the earliest, was @decaro_nick, who is now a dear friend.
Slowly but surely, I found my peeps. Folks like @ShawnInArizona & @TheSWPrincess & @OriginalJLP & @DocKimResists & @AdamaEsq had an incredible knack for building community. We broke up the resistance work with some fun.
Somewhere along the way, my Twitter friends encouraged me to take what I was doing on social media and start a blog. Without their encouragement, I never would have started PoliticalCharge.Org.
It started with me interviewing the incredible local activists I was finding -- people like @laureldavilacpa.
And it grew from there. It's been so great to watch folks like @inspiredjen build @AoCChecklist, @FeministKelly grow her podcast, @DemWrite @DemocracyStorm @JCTheResistance create #DemCast.

There's an infrastructure that exists today, that wasn't there in 2016.
We've now taken back the White House, but I think we all see that we cannot step away from this work. The trick now will be threading activism into our daily lives, and never getting complacent about democracy again.
To finish up, I want to thank so many of you who've encouraged me, read my posts, built community, and shared the importance of being involved.

We did good. And I'm proud to keep on keeping on with you.

There's a House district here in Oregon that the Republicans have been desperate to flip for years. This year, they're getting really close to making that happen!! 😬

Here's why it's close, and why we can't let them win. #VoteBlue // thread
Our Congressman in #OR04 is Peter DeFazio. He became the Chair of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee when we flipped the House in 2018.

He has 100% scores from the Human Rights Campaign & Planned Parenthood & a 97% rating from the League of Conservation Voters.
Our congressional district is the only competitive one in the state. We're the district in green on the bottom left. (By the way, #Portland is split between the yellow and dark red districts at the top left. This will be important later.)

44 days left to #GetOutTheVote. If you're like me and full of fight right now, there's no time to waste.

If you want ideas on how you can help #FlipTheSenate or help friends make a plan to vote, my blog Political Charge is jam packed with info you can share. // thread

Many intend to vote. But then don't. The good news is, if people take a few minutes to figure out their plan to vote, the chance they'll actually vote goes up nearly 10%!

I had to publish my cartoon roundup just as the news of #RBG passing came to light. While I have a few in the roundup, more and more wonderful tributes are coming in from editorial cartoonists.

I'll add them here in this thread throughout the day. //

There was a time when I was studying Art History, that I thought about a career at Interpol, helping to recover stolen art and artifacts.

So stories like the one involving Hobby Lobby and Middle Eastern artifacts have always caught my eye. // thread
When you buy art, it's really important to know where it came from. Ideally, you want to be able to trace who has owned it since it was originally purchased from the artist (or discovered when dealing with ancient artifacts.) 2/x
For example, during WWII, the Nazi's stole a lot of priceless artwork, particularly from Jewish families. None of that work should ever go on the open market, but instead be returned to the rightful families. 3/x Image
