TEMPLE OF THE DAY: Rishis proclaimed that the panchakshara mantra ‘Na, Ma, Śi, Vā, and Ya’ representing the five elements, five senses as the very essence of Vedas.
Today’s post is about a temple where the Lord reflects our inner self and reveal himself in enchanting five colours

Located in the southern banks of River Cauvery, Thirunallur is the abode of Shri Panchavarneshwarar/Kalyanasundarar and Maa Kalyanasundari. This ancient temple is also deeply connected with two Nayanmars (63 shaivaite saints). @punarutthana @kshetrapalas

The current temple structure with glorious Dravidian architecture dates back to 7-9 century AD Chola period and later expanded by Vijayanagara kings.
Sage Agasthya and Kunthi Devi are closely connected with this temple.

Lord Kalyanasundarar appears in 5 colours in a day. Copper, Pink, golden, emerald green and fifth one which cannot be named. Devotees say that the fifth colour changes according to the one’s un revealed nature/icchai. HE reflects our true self.

In the sanctum Santorum, the Jagat Pitha and Matha bless us as magnificent moortis. We also see Shri Mahavishnu and Shri Brahms paying their obeisance.
One twitter thread is not enough to explain the greatness of this temple and will speak about Amar Neethi Nayanar and Appar

Amar Neethi Nayanar: Born in a rich merchant family, Amar Neethi Nayanar was born in Pazhaiyarai in Chola kingdom. However, due to his unbridled Bhakti towards Thinallur Lord, Amar Neethi visited Thirunallur frequently. Due his stay here, he build choultries/Madam for devotees...

and donated food, clothes and wealth. Later he permanently moved to Thirunallur with his family to continue the service.
Deeply moved by his devotion and service, Lord Shiva wanted to reveal his greatness through a test.

Disguised as a young Brahmin boy with a loin cloth/kaupeenam tied in his waist and a stick with another kaupeenam/kovanam tied to it approached Amar Neethi Nayanar.
With devotion, Amar Neethi offered food. Boy said he can partake his food only after bathing in Cauvery.

HE requested Amar Neethi to keep his other kaupeenam safe until he returns. As HE went, kaupeenam disappeared. The Lord returned back in heavy rain and asked for the other kaupeenam to change. A shocked Amar Neethi pleaded for mercy as it is lost and offered a new kaupeenam.

The Lord was furious. As Amar Neethi pleaded continuously, HE finally accepted to accept anything equivalent to the weight of his Kaupeenam. Amar Neethi kept his wealth, his belongings but Alas, nothing matched the little cloth. Finally he offered himself with his family.

The Lord rejoiced and blessed him and his family with Mukti.

Thirunavukkarasar/Appar: Thirunallur is also the place where Appar received pacha deeksha (blessed by placing HIS divine feet on the head). That’s why, even today, devotees are blessed with Sadari here.

As I try to explain the unparalleled greatness of this temple and Nayanmars, I am sure I haven’t done justice to it.
