Hello everyone ! We are @Nat_itsme_uk & @StubbornDogs taking over Neville’s twitter from 7-9pm. Huge thanks to Neville for the opportunity to share our experiences & issues. We want to help others learn about & challenge some of myths about being trans out there #Transtakeover Sam and Nat, TPB 2018
Its #Transawarenessweek why is this needed?

Hate crimes against trans people have quadrupled in 5 years 53% of young trans people suffered a hate crime over 12 months Most of the media has waged a campaign against us just like past anti-gay crusades
bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-544…
we both want to stress that we can only talk from our own experiences. We’re both white professionals & have educational privilege. Trans people who are BAME & also face racism or other disadvantage may have quite different stories. Their voices also need to be heard & valued xx
we know that trans issues still new for many - thou trans people have been around as long as humans have! We welcome genuine questions asked with respect. Abuse/disrespect won’t be tolerated & Neville himself is hot on his block button. No DMs to him on this please!
The best way we feel we can help to raise awareness and dispel some myths is simply to share some of our journey with you… so here goes!

@Nat_itsme_uk & @StubbornDogs taking over Neville’s twitter from 7-9pm for #TransAwarenessWeek
@Nat_itsme_uk I’m 48 semi-retired professional, parent, tall, dark haired, green eyed, left handed trans woman.
I identify and present as a woman. Trans is just a verb it means I was put in the male category at birth but have transitioned to who I am. picture of Natalie
@StubbornDogs I’m 54, a counsellor & educator in private practice, single, a bit of a science geek, love creative stuff, footie & wild things

I’m a non-binary trans man.
Was put in female box at birth but always felt male. Lived most my adult life as lesbian until active transition at 42. Now bisexual/queer & don’t see sex/gender as binary (only M/F) picture of Sam

So... briefly our stories......
@Nat_itsme_uk
I never wanted to be trans, it took me until 44 to accept who i am, overcome my fears & guilt (my own transphobia)
Spent my life trying to repress, ignore and overcome these feelings – I could no longer do that, being me was one of the hardest things I ever did /1
struggled with being told was a boy all my life, earliest memories of this struggle are from around age of 6, being told i was a boy i could no longer dance the girls part in ballet with the girls. never danced again.. Always crossed dressed, always wanted to be a princess! /2 affirm Trans Kids

Hello! Thank you so much Neville Southall for letting us use this account to talk about our message. This is @ladygrew tweeting for @SWAIIreland, the Sex Workers Alliance Ireland, a sex worker-led organisation, who advocates and supports all sex workers on the island of Ireland.
A major focus for us is preventing criminalisation of sex work. Today is the 2 yr anniversary of the Sexual Offenses Act in Ireland, which criminalised the purchase of sex, and doubled already existing penalties for escorts working in pairs or groups. #DecrimForSafety
Client criminalisation was introduced purportedly to protect vulnerable people in sex work, but instead it has created "buyers' market" with clients having the bargaining power. #DecrimForSafety #SupportSafeSexWork @swaiireland

Hi + thanks for tuning in to this @docsnotcops takeover so far tonight, here from 7-9pm. Now we’ll be talking about the public health impacts of charging migrants to use NHS services #PatientsNotPassports
This @docsnotcops takeover has health workers, activists, campaigners bringing the real stories of the harms of charging to Twitter - I’m a doctor in central London and can't stand how distressing and harmful the charges are @TheBMA #PatientsNotPassports
Even though patients with HIV are not required to pay, the fear factor means migrants who are HIV+ are delaying seeking treatment - according to the @Nat_AIDS_Trust @ACTUP_LDN @lgsmigrants nat.org.uk/publication/ne…

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP THE ROJAVA REVOLUTION? - a thread>

Not everyone can travel to Northern Syria, of course. But everyone can do their part to defend the democratic, ecological, women-led revolution here – particularly people in the UK. (1/6) (@CommuneInt)
As we shared earlier, you can pressure the cowardly British government to bring Anna Campbell’s body back home.

You can also contact @KurdsCampaign to find out more about organising to support the Rojava revolution from the UK. (2/6)

If you’re a member of Labour, you can push for closer links with their Kurdish-led sister party HDP – many members are trapped in Turkish jails, and need your support.

You can also write to these Kurdish prisoners – more info here! (3/6)

Hi folks! It’s @SexWorkHive here for our Monday night takeover. Today we're tweeting from the International AIDS Conference in Amsterdam. We're here all week, drawing attention to sex worker issues from around the world. [Thread]
@SexWorkHive Yesterday we held a Sex Workers' Networking Pre-Meeting and over 150 sex workers came along, from many countries all over the world.
@SexWorkHive Sex workers have a long history of organising within the HIV-AIDS movement. Positive* sex workers are often stigmatised as 'spreading' HIV, but we are part of the solution, not the problem. nswp.org/sites/nswp.org…

This is my son and our first guest. J was 2 when he moved in- now, at nearly 5, he feels he has a big, Syrian brother. The love between the two of them is wonderful.
And this is my boy with one of our current guests, Y. Y and his wife and baby girl are from #Eritrea, so we have learned about East African politics, food, music and dancing.
Guests at @RefugeesAtHome come from 55 different countries- well, 54 and stateless. People often think of young, Muslim males from the Middle East; but people can seek safety from anywhere. They just need a reasonable fear of persecution, for a defined reason (race, sex etc)
