Alright, thread time!
A list of my theories for the #Supernatural finale, from broad to specific.
Later I will be either an idiot or a genius, but my motto when it comes to fictional theories tends to be "no risk, no reward," so ✌️🏻
If you don't want hopes, don't read, etc.
Most of this will be me repeating/summarizing things I've said but I want a nice list in one place.
• Canon reciprocal Deancas. Dean says "I love you" (or, POSSIBLY, “you’ve got me” or “you can have me." DEFINITELY holding out for I love you, though)
• Deancas kiss. For real.
• Cas becomes human. He is in love with Dean but also with the human experience, in some ways. Dean would still love human Cas (duh), eliminating Cas' worries about only being useful. Dean would be assured Cas loves him in all ways, not an ~angel way.~ It would make them equals.
The brothers are together, yet independent.
• Sam is with Eileen. Likely goes to college &/or continues training in magic.
• Dean opens a bar (Rebuilt Roadhouse? Haven for hunters?) & is with Cas.
Normal life–with a side of occasional hunting. Family doesn't end in blood.
• Domesticity, either shown or implied.
• Deancas dance scene. I'm still so serious about this lmao. If we get a glimpse at a Sam/Eileen wedding, the dance will happen then.
• Cameos somehow: Becky, Adam, Bobby, Mary, & I'd say John but they may have said he couldn't film?
• Honestly I feel like "Jack being the hands-off God who's simply ~in everything~" isn't necessarily all of it. I feel like Jack will still visit as part of the family SOMEHOW, but that's a vibe more than a theory. Just, to me, there's nothing that says that he HAS to be gone.
^ At the same time: I think he won't get involved, because...
• There seems to be a lot of talk about power & answers inside people, & in people being their best. I think this ties to how Cas will be brought back from the Empty as a direct correlation to Dean's love for him.
• Gay love can pierce through the veil of death & save the day? aka maybe Dean & Cas communicate via their profound bond as part of saving Cas. Either Cas is reaching out to them likely in small ways (ghost Eileen mirror), or Dean's heart is the LITERAL tie to Cas. Maybe both.
• Dean has to speak his truths to avoid the future Chuck showed Sam of vampires overrunning things. This will subtextually connect to their case (vampires with tongues cut out!), but the case plot is a veneer for the actual goals of this ep... "normal" life & soulmate endgames.
^ If you take the above a step further, btw... the end of those "future visions" was Dean becoming a vampire, aka a monster. What METAPHORICALLY separates both Sam & Dean from being monsters? Their humanity & love. Lee was human, but a "monster" because he lost both those things.
Sam & Dean are explicitly labeled as true heroes of ~a kind not seen in years~ over & over in s15. Their humanity is by far their strength. Their story is The Hero's Journey, of fundamentally changing & finding the freedom to live; for them, truly living is tied directly to love.
"Where is the truth in Supernatural?" In making all of these core concepts textual.
Swan Song, the bad ending, said "Peace, or freedom?"
They've got their freedom. Now they get their peace.
PS If anyone needs or wants an elaboration on any of the points I mentioned above, I can link you to the previous threads I've done on any of them or just give you my thought process in more detail :)

Something fundamentally bothers me about people's repetitive insistence that heroic characters are incapable of retiring, as a way to defend death as being a logical ending for a story.
I think this has become a disturbing trend, & I think the message it sends is a bad one.
+
Heroism has or is quickly becoming synonymous with "selflessness to the point of destruction." A character is shown to be traumatized, burdened, struggling with suicidal ideation... & we are expected to NOT want to see them triumph rather than die or regress? Why?
This is not the deep or interesting concept people think it is. The idea of "a hero would never retire because they ALWAYS want to help" fundamentally forgets that humanizing a character is multifaceted & it includes these aspects: humans get tired, & there are many ways to help.
no but... what was Misha filming. we know he was filming because he said he had stuff left to film. WHAT did he film?????
wait wait hang on
[holds a finger up]
so they could have Misha's voice on a phone in 15x19 but they could not have his voice on the Impala's radio? They could not have him show up anyway in a socially distanced 6 feet? Huh
did they use their $5 budget on Jared's wig
WHY WAS CAS STANDING IN AN ONION FIELD???????????????????????????????????????
I absolutely know there are people out there laughing at me right now or wanting to be like "told you so" sympathetically but I cannot possibly adequately word how little I care, how few fucks I give, and how nonexistent my regrets are and will always be
The moment I ever, IN MY LIFE, ALLOW MYSELF TO STOP HAVING HOPE THAT STORIES WILL END WELL IS THE MOMENT THAT I WILL FEEL THAT I HAVE LET A PART OF ME DIE & I HAVE LET THE BAD WRITERS WIN
Do people have to agree? No, it's a personal thing okay
Is this dramatic? I do not care :)
FUCK being jaded, FUCK being cynical, I will be excited about stories' potential as often as I want & till the day & no one will ever stop me because it does not make me feel stupid or crazy
it makes me feel that I am right, & they are wrong, because I am a stubborn motherfucker
No but seriously: it's also not "just" about Destiel. Like that's an undeniable part but it is... not the whole thing. They KILLEDDDD them. DEAN WENT TO BAT WITH EVERY MONSTER & BEING & GOD HIMSELF & HE DIED FROM A NAIL. THAT'S NOT QUEERBAITING SO MUCH AS IT IS DEEPLY STUPID
& then they like... flashed through Sam's life like we're meant to care when there is NO emotional resonance without at minimum Eileen there, as well as NO EMOTIONAL CONNECTION TO THIS SON. Why are we meant to care? We physically cannot care about this nameless son character
Why am I typing this? I DON'T KNOW! BECAUSE I CAN! Anyway. Forget all that shit about theorizing, about expecting reciprocation, etc. etc.
The bare minimum was "makes sense & ties up loose ends." It did not hit that bar.
THAT IS, FRANKLY, WILDER TO ME THAN ANYTHING ELSE TBH
