The Michigan Board of Canvassers today cut public comment from 3 minutes to 1 minute, after allowing friends of the board to use up much of the public comment time.

The following is my full statement regarding #Michigancertification of the 2020 vote.

1/9
The citizens of the State of Michigan - as well as citizens throughout this nation - have long fought to defend their right to vote. For better or for worse, the drafters of the US Constitution reserved the power over voting rights to the states.

2/9
Entrusting voting rights to the states has permitted racism, sexism, xenophobia, corporatism, and general corruption by many to interfere with the rights of each person to equal protection under the law.

3/9
Women, Black and other persons of color, incarcerated persons, students, LGBTQ+, and the homeless all have suffered disenfranchisement under the misuse of our state and federal election laws. Those same groups are at risk today in Michigan and across the nation.

4/9
The not-so-thinly-veiled accusation by certification opponents that the predominately Black population of Detroit has falsified its vote totals is yet another in a long line of baseless, racist tropes meant to disenfranchise Detroit citizens.

5/9
Charles Spies said earlier today that he doesn't care whether you call it an "audit" or a "review". Well, the law cares, and so do the voters whose votes are protected under the law. As an attorney, Mr. Spies should, too.

6/9
The authority of the Board of Canvassers is limited to what is specifically granted by law. I respectfully submit that the Board may not infer additional powers as some today urge you to do. Countless court decisions confirm that fact.

7/9
Long ago, the public ceased to trust its government. We have watched as Republicans and Democrats alike manipulated voting districts, voter registration laws, and primary and general elections. Today, the world is watching Michigan.

8/9
This Board has an opportunity to take a first step - and it is merely one step - to restore confidence in our elections. Please certify the vote of Michigan voters, as required by your appointments. Leave the courts to do the rest.

The DNC rejected both #MedicareForAll bills currently pending before the House and Senate, respectively.

Instead, it insists on a "public option", for which no sitting congressperson has written or sponsored a bill.

Wonder why?

1/5

politico.com/news/2020/08/2…
The 2020 DNC Platform says:

"The public option . . . will be administered by CMS, not private companies; and will cover all primary care without any co-payments and control costs for other treatments . . . ."

demconvention.com/wp-content/upl…

2/5
You might notice that, like current Medicare, the fantasy "public option" supported by the DNC won't cover prescriptions, dental, hearing, mental health, or long term care.

You'll have to buy that from private insurers, just as current Medicare patients do.

The DNC asks progressives for "unity" to defeat Donald Trump. Low voter turnout could ensure a second Trump term and GOP control of the Senate.

If Democrats are serious about a Biden "win" and Senate takeover, there's a simple solution . . . .

Two companion Medicare For All bills are pending in the House and Senate, each with a long list of co-sponsors.

Medicare For All (HR1384) easily can pass in the House today.

At a time when a growing number of working people are losing their employer-provided insurance and suffering under the burden of healthcare debt, passing Medicare For All, with strong vocal support from Joe Biden, would pressure the Senate to act.

The Intercept and American Prospect are running articles to save Cristina Tzintzun Ramirez's campaign today, in the aftermath of her volunteers defaming Sema Hernandez through phonebanking and texts to Sema's endorsers.

Here's a story about Cristina they won't run.

1/6
Her 2 non-profits - Jolt Initiative & Jolt Action - are required by law to operate independently of one another.

Jolt Action, a 501c4, endorses federal candidates and accepts donations for unlimited lobbying, actions which are prohibited for a 501c3 like Jolt Initiative.

2/6
A 501c3 org and a 501c4 org may share space and employees, but they must account for their expenses and employee time separately. An employee may not do work that benefits both companies at the same time.

Jolt Initiative & Jolt Action share employees in 3 Texas offices.

Warren's plan will adversely impact states which expanded Medicaid under the ACA and lower-wage employees. It will increase income disparity, disproportionately impact historically-responsible employers, and increase unemployment of low-wage workers.

1/6
Under Warren's plan, current states' contributions to Medicaid will be redirected back to the federal government to help fund the M4A program. This disproportionately impacts states which expanded Medicaid coverage under the ACA.

2/6
Warren's plan replaces the current Medicare tax, which is based on employee earnings, with a per-employee tax based on previous employer healthcare expenditures, or a "per-head" tax.

Why are Rep. Adam Schiff (D) and Sen. Martha McSally (R) introducing more "crime bills" to fight terrorism, when White Nationalists and other domestic terrorists can be prosecuted under existing law?

Rep. Schiff's HR4192 targets anyone who "obstructs, delays, or affects interstate or foreign commerce" or uses "any facility of interstate or foreign commerce" to "influence the policy of a government" (ANY government) and creates a "risk" to a person or property.

2/7
In plain English, "commerce" can be roads, the US or international mail, and especially the Internet.

That's broad enough to include exercising your right to free speech in public or on the Internet.

Joe Biden's culture and racial bias, as well as his elitism, render him unfit for public office.

Last night, Biden said, "[t]he reason we're the country we are is because we've been able to cherry pick from the best of every culture . . . ."

1/4
This is similar to his 2007 statement about presidential candidate Obama.

"I mean, you've got the first sort of mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy."

2/4

nbcnews.com/id/16911044/ns…
He said this about Black youth in 1993:

" . . . tens of thousands of them, born out of wedlock, without parents, without supervision, without any structure, without any conscience developing, because they literally have not been socialized . . . "
