As I figured, he didn’t bother to listen to it. I said before that this is just as egregious as listening to it and posting it. Because it means...you just don’t care. I get busy. I get producing audio content and publishing. firesidefiction.com/regarding-our-…
I get not having enough money or time. Hello, my whole career. I also know that if you solicit an issue by a Black editor, you have enough awareness to treat that work well. If you solicit it and then treat it this casually, then why solicit it?
I maintain, still, that the voiceover actor did this on purpose.
You don’t bother with notes, even. I just...whatever, man. Whatever.
The only part of this that makes sense is that the EIC used a single voice actor to save money. Saving money doesn’t explain any of the other choices. You’re hired already. You do voicing notes. You match content to actor. You do quality checks.

This is cruel to do to any creative person. It is cruel and blisteringly racist in this case. I mean, it’s more racist than even I expected when I just read the thread, and I think everything is racist. It’s 19th century racist.
I promise you, the voice actor did this on purpose. He was either being funny or was mad at the assignment or had such disdain for the work that he hit the lawn jockey setting in Reaper. But this is not carelessness or an accident.
Okay let’s take a poll. Have you ever emailed a stranger asking them for pictures of the bookshelves in their house so you can find new readings? (Maybe this is a digital new norm.)
So far, a full 15% of you think this is a grand idea. I am...surprised. Which, yay to be for still having that capacity. FASCINATING.
And more than a handful of people are deeply angry with me for even tweeting about it. Which...also, FASCINATING.
Tonight’s Hallmark movie has a real problem: the female lead reads as casually racist. That’s a problem because it’s one of their new IR films.
They tried a “meet cute” where the woman ignores the male lead in an empty room. It’s typical hallmark. When they’re both white, the woman comes off as “big city”. When a white woman doesn’t “see” the black man standing right in front of her — it feels racist.
It just goes to show how tough it’s going to be for Hallmark to just change the complexion of actors without also having more sophisticated writing.
I mean, disagree if you want but I have a long list of citations about how much the elite do not care about being smart. Smart is also for genetic losers. Smart women are an oxymoron.
They attack her credentials as an attack on the idea of credentialism, not because they care about smart. Trump attacks IQ etc not because he is insecure but because he genuinely believes smart is a genetic endowment
