Alex & Books has been a nearly 4-year long journey.

Now for the FIRST TIME EVER...

I'll be sharing all of my best reading tips, tricks, and techniques all in one place.

Introducing:

• The Art of Reading 📚

alexbooks.podia.com/the-art-of-rea…

(special promo code below 😉)
Now you may be thinking, why build a course about reading?

Here's why:

School taught us how to read

BUT...

It didn't teach us how to become readers.

That's where I want to help you.
You see, being literate ≠ being a reader.

Lots of people KNOW how to read.

BUT...

Very few people LOVE reading.

And even fewer people know how to read effectively & efficiently.
Can you relate to any of these situations:

• You want to spend more time reading...BUT you have trouble finding time in your busy schedule.

• You want to find interesting books to read...BUT it seems like there are thousands of books out there, all begging you to read them.
• You want to focus while reading...BUT you keep getting distracted and gravitating away from books.

• You know you should take notes while reading...BUT you don’t know any simple yet effective strategies.

• You want to read more books...BUT reading feels like a chore.
If so, this course will help you.

But it also goes beyond just developing a reading habit. It will teach you how to GET MORE out of your books.

Learn how to:

• Remember more of what you've read
• Organize important insights
• Apply lessons to make changes in your life
The course will consist of 3 main sections:

1) Finding & Filtering For Amazing Books

2) Getting More Books Into Your Life

3) Getting More Life Out Of Your Books

There will be actionable, step-by-step videos along with worksheets & bonus material to guide you on your journey.
Whether you want to develop a new reading habit or optimize an existing one, this course is for you.

Once this course goes live (Jan 2021) it will cost $149.

BUT, I'm doing a presale price of $99.

BUT...wait it gets better
I'm doing a special Black Friday weekend sale of only $79. 🤯

Use PROMO CODE: "TWITTER79" to take advantage of this limited time offer.

That's a savings of over 45%!

The $79 offer will expire on Dec. 1st, 2020. The price will only go UP from here. 📈
I'll be putting my heart and soul into this course AND...

I'm offering a 30-day money-back guarantee. So you can basically take this course risk-free.

Learning how to read better has changed my life...

I believe it can do the same for you.

Read on everyone,
-Alex & Books

What The World’s Reading Habits Look Like in 2020

(thread) 🧵
Which Countries Read The Most? 🌎

(hours per person each week)

1) India = ~11 hours
2) Thailand = ~9.5 hours
3) China = 8 hours
...
22) USA = ~6 hours
In 1820, 12% of the global population could read and write.

In 2020, 86% of the global population can read and write.

BUT...there is a gender discrepancy:

• 90% of boys are literate compared to 83% for girls

I love @JamesClear's newsletter.

Check out this great quote about reading from writer Lin Yutang:

"Compare the difference between the life of a man who does no reading and that of a man who does. The man who has not the habit of reading is imprisoned in his immediate world...
His life falls into a set routine; he is limited to contact and conversation with a few friends and acquaintances, and he sees only what happens in his immediate neighborhood. From this prison there is no escape.
But the moment he takes up a book, he immediately enters a different world, and if it is a good book, he is immediately put in touch with one of the best talkers of the world.

9 Lessons I learned from talking about "The Almanack of Naval Ravikant" with @EricJorgenson

(thread) 🧵
1) People Value Curation

A few of Eric's favorite books weren't written by an author but rather they were a well-curated collection of knowledge.

Ex:

• Seeking Wisdom
• Poor Charlie’s Almanack
• Berkshire Hathaway Letters

These books were an inspiration to Naval's book.
2) Twitter Is A Magical Place

One day, Eric decided to tweet about the idea of creating a Navalmanack.

The tweet went viral with tons of people saying he should do it and even @naval himself responded and gave the project a green light.

Inspired by @jackbutcher, @thisiskp_, and many others, I thought I'd share how I'm building Alex & Books in public!

First, let's start with the end goal:

• Make a living by reading books, inspiring others to read, and helping them become better readers
Here's the plan:

1) Grow audience through social media

2) Move audience to owned platforms (newsletter, podcast, etc.)

3) Monetize through courses, merch, & books

4) Use a portion of the profits to give books to those in need
Here are my current audience stats:

• Instagram = 63.2k
• Twitter = 13.4k
• Newsletter = 2.7k
• YouTube = .6k
• TikTok = 1.5k
• Podcast = 22k

Here's how I'm prioritizing the growth:

1) Newsletter
2) Podcast
3) Twitter
4) YouTube
5) Instagram
6) TikTok

A Fun Reading Challenge:

• The Four Seasons of Reading 🌷 🌻 🍂 ❄️

Every season people spend hours and hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars decorating their home.

What if we did the same thing with books?
I don't mean decorating your bookshelf with pumpkins & spiderwebs for fall.

I mean decorating your library by reading different books for each season like so:

Fall: 🍂

• Dracula by Bram Stoker
• Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
• The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving
Winter: ❄️

• The Snowman by Raymond Briggs
• A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
• The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis

Spring: 🌷

• Emma by Jane Austen
• Middlemarch by George Eliot
• Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by C.S. Lewis

Reading Tip:

• Book O' Clock 🕰️

Designate a specific period of time that belongs solely to reading books.

Here's how to apply it 👇
In life, when there's an interaction we want to do, we schedule a specific time for it:

• 7 am workout with a trainer
• 4 pm meeting with a coworker
• 7 pm hangout session with friends

So why not do the same for reading?
Schedule a specific time to read every day.

It could be as short as 15 minutes or as long as an hour (if you want to read more go for it).

The key is to block off a period of time where the sole purpose of that time is to do one thing–READ.
