2/ This year has seen enormous financial hardship for so many, huge gains for billionaires, and a lot of giving by ordinary people to help others and to shore up our creaky democracy. Journalism serves to both document efforts by others and expose the treachery to the system.

3/ As a non-profit, @MotherJones has always relied on donations and subscriptions to keep us doing the investigative journalism we need in the world.

4/ Those donations have helped fund some of the earliest and best pieces on things like Trump's hotels and finances: motherjones.com/politics/2020/…

8/ One of the things we've done with past donation is invest in covering misinformation, by hiring @alibreland who along with @kieraevebutler and others, has been covering the hell out of QAnon, starting a year and a half ago: motherjones.com/politics/2019/…

9/ Which brings me to Facebook, perhaps the #1 greatest threat to a functioning society. It's also directly attacked us, by minimizing the amount of MoJo stories that people who have SIGNED UP FOR THEM see in their feed: motherjones.com/media/2020/10/…

10/ What does that mean for the finances of @MotherJones? Well less traffic means less ad revenues, but for us the bigger hit is it means less people see stories that then prompt them to donate (secure.motherjones.com/flex/mj/key/7L…) or subscribe (secure.motherjones.com/flex/mj/key/SE…)

11/ @patcaldwell, one of our union co-chairs, wrote means for our staff, and really all of journalism, since Facebook manipulating its algo to appease Conservatives and pointedly suppress progressive outlets doesn't just impact MoJo: motherjones.com/media/2020/10/…
