India didn’t hv enough food or milk to feed it’s population in 70’s
Today, India is world's largest producer of milk, pulses, jute
2nd in rice, wheat, sugarcane, groundnut, veg, fruit, cotton
Among top in spices, fish, poultry, livestock & plantation crops
How did it happen?1/n
Today India is world’s third largest economy. It is now an industrial and service sector economy. Agriculture is 16% of GDP.
In 1947, it was one of the poorest and agriculture was over 50% of GDP.
How did this happen?
2/n
Is it because agriculture growth post 70’s enabled rural population to study and participate in other sectors?
Did the wealth generated by Agri-revolution help in growth of other sectors?
3/n
Did reservation & gender equality measures and constitutional provisions help by enabling majority of population to participate in economic activity and governance?
4/n
Is it a coincidence that India’s agriculturally advanced states are also industrially rich, are also ahead in service sector and have also higher participation of lower castes and women?

A letter written in 2010 by former Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has surfaced, wherein he is advocating reforms in APMC.
It’s hinted that he his changing his position due to political motivations.
What are the facts? Let’s examine. 1/n
The letter talks of Draft APMC Rules 2007. 1. In draft rules, state govts are empowered to declare any market as Special Market or Sp Commodity Market functioning under a Market Committee. 2. New agri-laws have placed the private agri business out of the ambit of mandi system 2/n
3. 2007 Rules empower Market Committees Rk collect levy, fees, under the aegis of state govts. 4. New agri-laws restrict APMC or state govt from collecting levy, fees from private market.

I am sad to announce that our channel Swaraj Express has abruptly and suddenly shut down. It’s telecast was unilaterally stopped by our licence partner for reasons yet unknown to us. I would like to thank everyone who supported us and was co-passenger in this journey. 1/n
I would like to thank our promoter Dr. Sunil Kapoor for his sustained and unqualified support.

Unfortunately, Covid-19 has created unprecedented situation for everyone. Yet we were inching forward. Despite the sudden brakes, we tried to rework and restart the channel. But our efforts didn’t materialise.
