Currently, we have the classic A&B logo on t-shirts and stickers.

I'm building an online course to help people become better readers.

BUT...I've never built a course before.

SO...what do you say we build this together?

β€’ How To Build A Successful Online Course (build-in public edition)

(thread) 🧡
/ Thread Intro:

This will be a live and ongoing thread where I share how and why I'm building my course The Art of Reading.

I'll be transparent about the success of my course and share helpful resources to help YOU build your own course.

Let's begin!

alexbooks.podia.com/the-art-of-rea…
1/ Why build a course?

Content creators of today all have a website, social media presence, newsletter, and maybe even a podcast.

The content creators of the future will all have a course (or other digital products).

Why?

What The World’s Reading Habits Look Like in 2020

(thread) 🧡
Which Countries Read The Most? 🌎

(hours per person each week)

1) India = ~11 hours
2) Thailand = ~9.5 hours
3) China = 8 hours
...
22) USA = ~6 hours
In 1820, 12% of the global population could read and write.

In 2020, 86% of the global population can read and write.

BUT...there is a gender discrepancy:

β€’ 90% of boys are literate compared to 83% for girls

Alex & Books has been a nearly 4-year long journey.

Now for the FIRST TIME EVER...

I'll be sharing all of my best reading tips, tricks, and techniques all in one place.

Introducing:

β€’ The Art of Reading πŸ“š

Now you may be thinking, why build a course about reading?

Here's why:

School taught us how to read

BUT...

It didn't teach us how to become readers.

That's where I want to help you.
You see, being literate β‰  being a reader.

Lots of people KNOW how to read.

BUT...

Very few people LOVE reading.

And even fewer people know how to read effectively & efficiently.

I love @JamesClear's newsletter.

Check out this great quote about reading from writer Lin Yutang:

"Compare the difference between the life of a man who does no reading and that of a man who does. The man who has not the habit of reading is imprisoned in his immediate world...
His life falls into a set routine; he is limited to contact and conversation with a few friends and acquaintances, and he sees only what happens in his immediate neighborhood. From this prison there is no escape.
But the moment he takes up a book, he immediately enters a different world, and if it is a good book, he is immediately put in touch with one of the best talkers of the world.

9 Lessons I learned from talking about "The Almanack of Naval Ravikant" with @EricJorgenson

(thread) 🧡
1) People Value Curation

A few of Eric's favorite books weren't written by an author but rather they were a well-curated collection of knowledge.

Ex:

β€’ Seeking Wisdom
β€’ Poor Charlie’s Almanack
β€’ Berkshire Hathaway Letters

These books were an inspiration to Naval's book.
2) Twitter Is A Magical Place

One day, Eric decided to tweet about the idea of creating a Navalmanack.

The tweet went viral with tons of people saying he should do it and even @naval himself responded and gave the project a green light.

Inspired by @jackbutcher, @thisiskp_, and many others, I thought I'd share how I'm building Alex & Books in public!

First, let's start with the end goal:

β€’ Make a living by reading books, inspiring others to read, and helping them become better readers
Here's the plan:

1) Grow audience through social media

2) Move audience to owned platforms (newsletter, podcast, etc.)

3) Monetize through courses, merch, & books

4) Use a portion of the profits to give books to those in need
Here are my current audience stats:

β€’ Instagram = 63.2k
β€’ Twitter = 13.4k
β€’ Newsletter = 2.7k
β€’ YouTube = .6k
β€’ TikTok = 1.5k
β€’ Podcast = 22k

Here's how I'm prioritizing the growth:

1) Newsletter
2) Podcast
3) Twitter
4) YouTube
5) Instagram
6) TikTok
