Okay, my #MagicPorch has gotten way too much magic stuff lately, and I'm behind showing it. But here are some of the things that lovely people have sent recently that I adore, that ALSO would make good holiday gifts. Let's go #MagicPorch!
1/
Here’s the first thing. Many of you know I am an avid gamer and collector of retro games. So one of my favorite things from the past year is the @evercaderetro, an amazing handheld cartridge system with LICENSED versions of long lost games. I love it, and... 2/
...at long last, they finally have released to the multi-carts I have been wanting the most, both featuring games from the Atari Lynx! Twenty five classic games on just two carts!
3/
The @evercaderetro is a ridiculous amount of fun, a real retro gamer’s joy, I’ve been playing it all year. It’s a great gift for the gamer in your life, just $99 for the premium set with three cartridges full of classic games.
I love this thing.
4/
Next, this isn’t a gift idea, but I love it. My brilliant beautiful friend @clouds painted me this custom card in watercolors, Godzilla doing community service!
5/
Next, I have a couple of beautiful gifts for. The wonderful @TheCraftingMuse at @wizkidsgames and they could not be more different. :)
First is these adorable Yeti Tykes, these are teeny and so cute, already painted...
6/
Here they are closer up. These are only available as a free gift with purchase, and only until the end of December or as supplies last.
They’re so cute, they make me want to run a D&D game on Disneyland’s Matterhorn!
7/
And then, holy crap, this beauty! The BOX for this is the size of a microwave, it’s the biggest figure @wizkidsgames has done and it’s STUNNING.
This is the Arveiaturace Gargantun White Dragon, and it’s breathtaking. Wow!
Next is one of my favorite new graphic novels. Remember how good the Superboy book was when @KarlKesel wrote it? This has that energy, it’s a new superhero world, but it’s SO FUN and inventive it’s like nothing else. I wrote the foreword, too!
I have talked about this a lot, but this is just one of my favorite things EVER. The nice people at @Nat20_DiceBox, a family or artists and craftspeople, make these incredible dice boxes handcrafted in wood, this is mine. 12/
I have raved about it so much, it’s ridiculous. But I can’t tell you how fun it is to bring to the game table, complete with your favorite dice and some key miniatures. I adore this thing.
All the accessories, including a dice catapult, fit inside!
13/
Anyway, so the problem is, @RocketSpouse and Rocket Kid loved the thing so much that we decided we had to get them each one. You choose the wood, the binding, the design, you can even engrave them. And matching accessories!
You have to hold one, they are so cool.
14/
So they picked the details, and the box came, and wow.
Hubby got the Raven in Red Oak, kid got Cthulhu in Slate.
THEY LOOK FREAKING AMAZING.
You open it for the accessories and dice tray.
15/
Here are the accessories, all matching your dice box...
Cover holder, dice tray, figure holder, mini-dice tower and their famous caddypult dice launcher. Cover closes flat for storage!
These are seriously one of the coolest things I’ve ever had. Now we have three! each is custom made, they start at $84.00 and they have a deal right now with the code holiday10 for ten present off. Look how cool they look!
I love crossovers. A lot of writers hate them because they often are enforced by editorial. But I love them, they were my favorites as a kid, and even when they are sort of inflicted upon an arc, I love trying to make them feel like they belong.
1/
My problem with big event crossover books is not that they the usual stuff, it's that I think they should FEEL like events. Too many are a formula from a committee; ie. this hero dies, this hero loses an arm, etc. etc.
They should feel like they're special.
2/
I enjoyed Death Metal because it was just such a balloon full of nitro. I enjoyed Secret Wars because it didn't really feel like any other Marvel story at the time. Those kinds of stories always stick out for me, because they feel special.
3/
One time I was at a con where David Hasselhoff was a guest, also. We crossed paths several times and he was very friendly, seemed like a perfectly decent dude. He was very fit and handsome, just seemed like a very nice guy for a celebrity. BUT...
1/
...the con hotel, which was very nice, was a bit remote from anything so we all ended up staying around the hotel when the con was done. The celebrities and comics people mixed a little bit, but mostly kept to themselves.
2/
The thing is, this lovely hotel had a glass elevator that game a very nice view, but was very very slow. I don't know why, but it took FOREVER to get to the upper floors. So, one night, after an exhausting con day, @RocketSpouse and I got in the elevator. And...
3/
Okay, so here's a funny thing about anthologies in comics...while sometimes you get to read the other stories in advance, often, you don't see the entire book until everyone else does. I was honored to be asked to write a little story in DEATH METAL: LAST STORIES OF THE DCU.
1/
The great @Ssnyder1835 was kind enough to ask me to participate, writing a story with the Green Arrow/Black Canary romance, which weirdly, I have gotten to write very little of, considering how many BC stories I've done. So I happily agreed.
2/
Then I found out the incredible @MeghanHetrick was available to draw it, and it would be colored by the incredible @marissadraws, so it was going to LOOK beautiful, and I was even happier.
