こういう理解の悪い人相手に書くのは好きではありませんが、最後に書いておきます。この元は、ビジネス英語として、two-edged swordが、功罪両面を持つものという比喩的意味で挙げられており、それは、double-edged swordが適切である、と私が指摘したもの、です。

Ngram を見ると、古くは両方使われていますが、近年は千対１で、double-edged sword が良く使われています。そこで反証として出されたのは、前掲の本ですが、そこでの意味は『鋭い刀』という意味で、『功罪両面ある』という意味じゃない。

更に、聖書に出てくるという主張もなされましたが、１６１１年のジェームズ欽定版を見ると、出てくるのは４ヶ所。まずは、(1) Psalms 149:6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand. (2) Proverbs 5:4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as

twoedged sword. (3) Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the diving asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

(4) Revelations 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars; and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

時代を遡ると、two eged swordという表現が増えますが、以上すべての例で、two-edged sword は『鋭い刀』という意味で使われており、『功罪両面持つもの』という比喩的意味ではありません。明快に意図を伝える現代のビジネス英語としては、比喩的意味なら、double-edged sword を使うべきでしょう。
