This big case count can be seen as a disappointment - the seven-day average count, as of yesterday was 314.
The case count for Northern Health is disturbing considering the population of the region.
New outbreaks:

- Hamiota Health Centre acute care unit, Hamiota
- Seven Oaks General Hospital, unit 3U4-7, Winnipeg
Hanover School Division drops down to orange from red on Jan. 4, joining the rest of Manitoba school divisions.
Roussin: Manitoba's death rate has increased by 9 times since Thanksgiving.
Roussin: 3 of 10 cases are First Nations and half the patients in hospital are First Nations.
Roussin now talks about an unsung change in the public health order:

Students returning for the holidays can live at home temporarily, though non-essential travel is not recommended and quarantine from the east remains in place.
Roussin says there are situations where students will return home.
Roussin:

Children from multiple households must not gather over holidays. Not allowed. Doesn't matter if they share cohorts at school.
Roussin: No large meals. No large gatherings. Gather virtually.
Siragusa:

COVID hospital data improved.

388 hospitalized w/COVID
298 COVID patients still infectious
90 COVID patients not infectious

121 ICU patients of all sorts
40 contagious COVID patients
13 longer-term COVID patients

48 COVID patients on ventilators
To repeat:

388 COVID patients in hospital
53 COVID patients in ICU

Dashboard figures only state contagious patients.
Siragusa:

14 rooms in use in new 138-room homeless COVID shelter.

57 of 90 rooms in use in Red Cross site.
There are 14 outbreaks in nine Manitoba hospitals.
Roussin: Still working on getting accurate numbers of active and recovered cases. Not there yet.
Roussin asked about NHL jumping vaccine queue. Says he's heard nothing about that.
Roussin says the jump in Northern cases is due to the severe outbreak in Shamattawa.
Roussin: MB will not sell vaccines to private entities, including the Jets.
Roussin asked if fans will be allowed back into stadiums and arenas if most Manitobans are vaccinated by early fall.

Too early to say. Large events will be last gatherings allowed when restrictions are eased.
Roussin asked why critical-care workers are getting vaccinated first and not care-home residents.

Says it's logistical requirements of initial tiny shipment of vaccine.
Roussin clarifies: Even casual hockey has a size limit of five people.
